star this property answer text <p>The Ministry of Defence (MOD) does not buy bear pelts; it buys ceremonial caps direct from suppliers who source pelts from animals culled as part of a programme to manage the wild population licensed by the Canadian government. Animal welfare standards relating to the bear cull are a matter for the Canadian government.</p><br /> <br /><p>The MOD also purchases coney skin (rabbit fur) for the Royal Engineers’ and Royal Signals’ busby and fox fur for the Royal Horse Artillery, Kings Troop Officers’ busby. The current contract requires a commitment to sustainable procurement.</p><br /><p>Depending on usage and maintenance, bearskin busbys can last for up to 50 years. No trialling has taken place since 2007. Information about costs of these trials is not held centrally and could be provided only at disproportionate cost. In 2012 the Ministry of Defence loaned a sample bearskin to the animal rights organisation, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, to aid its research and development programme on a synthetic alternative.</p><br /><p>There has been no research and development carried out to find a synthetic alternative to coney skin or fox fur.</p><br />

star this property answer text <p>The Department offers Service personnel the opportunity to study for International (General Certificate of Secondary Education) (IGCSE) examinations as opposed to GCSE examinations, since these are better suited to the work and life of Service personnel. The IGCSE does not involve coursework, instead candidates sit an extra paper. The IGCSE qualification is recognised world-wide.</p><p> </p><p>In 2014, there were 1,763 applications from Armed Forces personnel for the IGCSE examinations. All applications were granted, although this does not mean that every candidate sat the exam.</p><p> </p><p>These figures represent only those applicants who planned to have IGCSEs through Cambridge International Examinations.</p> more like this

The figures group Scotland and Northern Ireland together and then England and Wales together.</p><p> </p><p>These visits can comprise presentations, citizenship talks, meetings with staff, participation in career events, practice interviews and activities with the students, such as science and maths challenges, and other indoor or outdoor exercises.</p><p> </p><p>The Armed Forces never visit schools for recruitment purposes and would only ever visit a school after being invited by a teacher to support school activities. Similar contributions to schools are made by the Police, Fire, Ambulance and other emergency services. star this property answer text <p>The Ministry of Defence (MOD) does not buy bear pelts; it buys ceremonial caps direct from suppliers who source pelts from animals culled as part of a programme to manage the wild population licensed by the Canadian government. Animal welfare standards relating to the bear cull are a matter for the Canadian government.</p><br /> <br /><p>The MOD also purchases coney skin (rabbit fur) for the Royal Engineers’ and Royal Signals’ busby and fox fur for the Royal Horse Artillery, Kings Troop Officers’ busby. The current contract requires a commitment to sustainable procurement.</p><br /><p>Depending on usage and maintenance, bearskin busbys can last for up to 50 years. For the Devolved Administrations it is expected that the Welsh and Scottish indices of Multiple Deprivation and the Northern Ireland Multiple Deprivation Measure will be used.</p><p> </p><p>No estimate has yet been made of the number of state and independent schools in less affluent areas.</p><p> </p><p> </p> more like this
