Gentleman is mistaken as to the meeting and offer in question.</p><p> </p><p>It is a matter of public record that the General Secretary and Deputy General Secretary of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) have seats on the Department’s Trade Union Advisory Group and Strategic Trade Advisory Group respectively.</p><p> </p><p>Following the TUC’s request, the Department has offered a number of seats on Trade Advisory Groups (TAGs) for representatives of trades unions, but the TUC have not taken up these seats yet.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The Government is committed to supporting Carbon Capture Usage and Storage (CCUS) and low carbon hydrogen production, both vital for meeting net zero by 2050, whilst maximising economic benefits and supporting jobs and skills.</p><p> </p><p>The CCUS Infrastructure Fund (CIF) and Net Zero Hydrogen Fund (NZHF) will provide £1bn and £240m respectively to support the capital costs for CCUS and low carbon hydrogen production, alongside the revenue support provided by the Industrial Decarbonisation and Hydrogen Revenue Support Scheme (IDHRS). The government will be delivering coordinated and effective support packages through the ongoing CCUS Cluster Sequencing process and the forthcoming electrolytic hydrogen allocation rounds. Integrated monitoring and evaluation plans are being developed across all three funds to ensure that their impact and effectiveness is assessed.</p> more like this

answer text <p>On 25 March, the government implemented increased tariff duties on a number of goods originating in Russia and Belarus. These measures are a necessary response to Putin’s continued assault on Ukraine.</p><p> </p><p>Careful analysis was conducted across government to identify relevant products. The government looked at relevant considerations, including balancing the impacts on the UK economy against wider objectives.</p><p> </p><p>UK steel producers which sourced materials from Russia are changing to alternative sources and are doing all they can to mitigate supply chain disruption. Producers are showing great resilience in these challenging circumstances. We are continuing to work with companies to monitor impacts.</p> more like this

answer text <p>Decarbonising UK industry is a core part of the Government’s ambitious plan for the green industrial revolution. The Net Zero Strategy, published in October 2021, reaffirms our commitment to work in collaboration with the Steel Council to consider the implications of the recommendation of the Climate Change Committee to ‘set targets for ore-based steelmaking to reach near-zero emissions by 2035’. Hydrogen-based steelmaking is one of the technological approaches being examined as part of this process.</p><p> </p><p>The Government is monitoring international progress on low carbon steel making trials, using hydrogen and other technologies, and is actively engaged in international initiatives to support industrial decarbonisation innovation, including the Mission Innovation Platform and the Leadership Group for Industry Transition.</p><p> </p><p>The UK steel sector has the opportunity to bid into industrial fuel switching innovation programmes under the £1 billion Net Zero Innovation Portfolio (NZIP), which is intended to promote switching away from more carbon-intensive fuel sources.</p><p> </p><p>The Government will continue to work together with sector through the Steel Council on the shared endeavour of a low carbon future.</p>

answer text <p>Both the Industrial Decarbonisation Strategy and the Net Zero Strategy, published on 19 October 2021, set out a range of decarbonisation support available to the sector. This includes:</p><ul><li>Over £600 million in relief since 2013 to make electricity costs more competitive.</li><li>Access to up to £66 million through the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund and the £315 million Industrial Energy Transformation Fund (IETF) to develop new technologies, help cut energy bills and increase energy efficiency.</li><li>Long-term work at the Materials Processing Institute in Teesside to help the UK steel and metals sector improve efficiencies, reduce emissions, and boost competitiveness.</li><li>The opportunity to bid into industrial fuel switching innovation programmes under the £1 billion Net Zero Innovation Portfolio (NZIP), which is intended to promote switching away from more carbon-intensive fuel sources.</li><li>Around £2 billion spending for Carbon Capture Usage and Storage (CCUS) and hydrogen.
