answer text
The government remains committed to international development and providing support to the world's poorest, and intends to return to spending 0.7% of gross national income on Official Development Assistance (ODA) when the fiscal situation allows.

The 2021 Spending Review provides departments with an ODA budget that rises to £12.3 billion in 2024-25, growing by 23% compared to the £10 billion allocated at the 2020 Spending Review, and facilitates significant increases across priority spending areas. This will ensure that the UK remains one of the largest ODA spenders in the world and well above the OECD Development Assistance Committee average.

The UK donated 30.8 million vaccines in 2021. We have now donated a total of 54.5 million vaccines, benefitting more than 38 countries. Our 100 million dose-donation target is part of one billion doses G7 leaders committed to share and finance at the Carbis Bay summit. They are a testament to our collective commitment to accelerate global vaccine access.

As with all ODA eligible expenditure, donations of surplus vaccines will count towards meeting the UK’s annual ODA spending commitment; this is the established UK approach in line with international rules.

answer text
The UK has engaged constructively in the Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS) waiver debate and will continue to do so when presented with further formal text proposals. This has not yet happened. HM Government remains open to initiatives that could help with equitable vaccine distribution and their prompt administration, but there is no evidence that waiving intellectual property protections would advance this objective. Instead, the UK is working with international and regional partners, including the African Union, Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, CEPI (the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations), international development banks and the private sector to catalyse strategic investments for vaccine manufacturing in low- and middle-income countries.
more like this

answer text
As set out in the Home Secretary’s statement to the House on 1 March, a fee free, bespoke Ukraine Family Scheme has been introduced. The route allows both immediate family (spouse, civil partner, durable partner, minor children) and extended family (parent, grandparent, adult children, grandchildren, siblings, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, in laws and their immediate family) to join qualifying family members in the UK. This route was launched on 4 March.

If an applicant has applied on another application form or under a different visa route and the decision maker feels the applicant would qualify under the Ukraine Family Scheme, the decision maker will write to the applicant and offer them the opportunity to be considered under the Scheme. The decision maker will consider the application on the evidence already provided unless there is insufficient information to make a decision. This will ensure an application can be assessed under the Ukraine Family Scheme without the need for a further application.

answer text
Pension Credit take-up statistics cannot be broken down to regional level.

The Department has undertaken a range of actions to raise awareness of Pension Credit, encourage pensioners to check their eligibility, and to make a claim. This has included a Pension Credit media day of action in June last year as well as setting up a Pension Credit working group, which is made up of a diverse range of organisations and tasked with identifying new practical initiatives that we can work on together to help increase Pension Credit take up. We continue to use opportunities to promote Pension Credit using proactive press activity and social media to reach potential recipients, their families and friends.

Our initial internal management information suggests new claims for Pension Credit in the past twelve months to December 2021 were around 136,000, representing an increase of around 30% compared to the 12 months to December 2019 when they were around 105,000. It also suggests that we have been receiving consistently high volumes of claims over recent months, at around 3,300 per week.

This management information has not been subjected to the usual standard of quality assurance associated with official statistics but are provided here in the interests of transparency.

The impact of these claim volumes on numbers of successful awards and on Pension Credit take-up will take longer to establish given the usual cycle involved in producing those statistics.
