It was arranged in relation to the Committee’s review of the UK Government’s follow-up reports to the 2016 inquiry under the Optional Protocol to the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.</p><p> </p><p>This Government has followed all of the Committee’s rules and procedures, and agreed with the Committee to attend this non-compulsory hearing at the Committee’s session in March 2024. At this hearing, representatives of the UK Government will provide further information on the UK’s progress, as agreed by the Committee. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 20/09/2023 answer text <p>All breast screening services are reporting that they have recovered from the impact of COVID-19.</p><p>To achieve this a number of steps have been taken, including:</p><p>- Breast Screening Offices running extra screening sessions and fully optimising available appointments to clear the mammogram backlog;</p><p>- developing a ‘NHS National Demand and Capacity Tool’ to support collation and analyses of data to identify where support and interventions are required;</p><p>- adapting mobile breast screening units so that women can be seen safely, in line with infection protection and control procedures;</p><p>- providers being encouraged to use methods such as text messaging to remind women about their breast screening invitation and encourage them to attend; and</p><p>- regional commissioners working closely with cancer alliances and cancer charities to develop uptake plans which address specific population needs.</p><p>In addition, the Department has invested £10 million of funding into the NHS Breast Screening Programme, providing 28 new breast screening units targeted at areas with the greatest challenges of uptake and coverage to boost uptake of screening in areas where attendance is low and tackle health disparities.</p> answering member constituency Colchester answering member printed Will Quince question first answered 20/09/2023 10:02:04 answering member 4423 label Biography information for Will Quince

answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 19/09/2023 answer text <p>We set an ambition in our Resources and Waste Strategy to send less than 10% of municipal waste to landfill by 2035. As a result of active diversion of municipal waste from landfill over the last two decades, only 8.1% of local authority collected waste was sent to landfill in 2021/22. This equates to a 90% reduction by weight since 2000/01 when 79% of municipal waste was sent to landfill.</p><p> </p><p>To reduce this further, in line with the commitment in the Net Zero Strategy, we are exploring options for the near elimination of biodegradable waste to landfill from 2028 – we issued a call for evidence on this in May and will publish our Government response and more information in due course. We are also working towards eliminating all food waste being sent to landfill by 2030.</p><p> </p><p>To support this, through powers in the Environment Act 2021 we will require all local authorities in England to arrange for the separate collection of food waste from households and provide them with the new burdens funding to do so.</p><p> </p><p>Our plans for Extended Producer Responsibility for packaging will also play a key part in making it easier for householders to recycle and reduce the amount of waste sent for landfill, moving the full cost of dealing with packaging waste from households, including collection and disposal, away from local taxpayers and councils to the packaging producers under the ‘polluter pays principle’. This will encourage producers to reduce their use of packaging and use packaging which is easier to recycle.</p><p> </p><p>The Waste Infrastructure Delivery Programme was established in 2006 to support local authorities to accelerate the building of infrastructure needed to treat residual waste, minimise municipal waste going to landfill, and increase recycling. This is a £3 billion programme of 25-year grants for 27 local authorities (now 23: two completed and two where the grant has been withdrawn) ending in 2042 when the last grant payment will be made. This continued support provided to local authorities has provided modern, efficient waste management facilities, enabling England to meet its 2020 landfill diversion targets. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 11/09/2023 answer text <p>Under measures in the Knives Act 1997 it is an offence to market a knife in a way which indicates, or suggests, that it is suitable for combat, or is otherwise likely to encourage violent behaviour involving the use of the knife as a weapon. A person found guilty of this offence on indictment can face up to 2 years imprisonment or a fine or both.</p><p>We are also introducing the Online Safety Bill which is currently in its final stages in Parliament. The legislation will achieve Royal Assent this Autumn and Ofcom’s powers will commence shortly after.</p><p>For the first time in the UK, tech companies are going to be accountable to an independent regulator to keep their users, particularly children, safe. They will need to remove and limit the spread of illegal content. This means less illegal content online and when it does appear it will be removed quicker.</p><p>Schedule 7 of the Bill sets out a series of priority offences which includes the sale of weapons online, including sales from online marketplaces. Companies will need to take particularly robust action to prevent the proliferation of this content online and ensure that their services are not used for offending. This means companies will need to proactively mitigate the risk that their services are used for illegal activity including removing any content that does appear as soon as they are made aware of it.</p><p>In addition, as part of DCMS' Online Advertising Programme, the government will introduce a new and targeted regulatory framework for paid-for online advertising, which will focus on tackling illegal advertising and increasing the protection of children and young people from adverts for products and services that are illegal to sell.</p><p>DCMS will be issuing a consultation on the details of the proposed regulation in due course and have convened a ministerially-led industry taskforce to drive forward non-legislative action meanwhile.</p> answering member constituency Croydon South answering member printed Chris Philp question first answered 11/09/2023 16:05:05 answering member 4503 label Biography information for Chris Philp
