We do, however, publish data on those who have been granted asylum in the UK, with main applicants broken down by country of nationality. The latest release, published 24th May 2019, can be found in tab as_01 at volume 1 of the quarterly Immigration Statistics release:<br><a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/immigration-statistics-year-ending-march-2019/list-of-tables#asylum" target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/immigration-statistics-year-ending-march-2019/list-of-tables#asylum</a></p><p>The UK has a proud history of providing protection to those who need it, in accordance with our international obligations under the Refugee Convention and European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR). <br>Where someone establishes a well-founded fear of persecution or serious harm in their country they are normally granted protection and are not expected to return there.</p><p>Our assessment of the situation for Uighurs in China is set out in the relevant country policy and information note, which is available on the Gov.uk website</p><p>All asylum and human rights claims from Chinese nationals are carefully considered on their individual merits in accordance with our international obligations. Once closed, the Youth Endowment Fund will collate and release figures on the number of applicants and will include breakdowns for geography and the different categories of applicants. This case has highlighted the importance of tailoring support according to the individual needs of victims and, in response, we will be embedding a more needs-based approach in our services.</del></p><p><del class="ministerial">In October 2017, Government announced an ambitious package of reforms to the National Referral Mechanism (NRM) – our system for identifying and supporting victims of modern slavery. We have already made significant progress in delivering this complex reform programme and we will continue to drive improvements to the services available to ensure they are meeting the recovery needs of victims.</del></p><p><ins class="ministerial">The Government is committed to stamping out modern slavery and providing victims with the support they need to rebuild their lives.</ins></p><p><ins class="ministerial">We are always working to improve our understanding of the complex needs of victims of modern slavery and to improve the support available.</ins></p><p><ins class="ministerial">In October 2017, Government announced an ambitious package of reforms to the National Referral Mechanism (NRM) – our system for identifying and supporting victims of modern slavery. The proposals under consideration – including extending the reporting requirement to public sector organisations, requiring organisations to report on specific topics and introducing a new civil penalty regime – would require changes to primary legislation. This supports a range of interventions, such as the commitment of £5 million to a programme in Nigeria and £3 million to Vietnam through the Home Office Modern Slavery Fund to prevent modern slavery and build capacity to tackle it at source.
