star this property answer text Government’s Sporting Future strategy set out the importance of people accessing and experiencing major sporting events and the important outcomes that this can contribute to. It was also clear that Government wants to see sport’s inspirational impact have as broad a reach as possible.<p /><p>UK Sport studies show the motivational power of sport, with two thirds of the British public saying they have been inspired by the success of our Olympic and Paralympic teams and 40% of these people being motivated to do more sport or active recreation than normal.</p><p>Government welcomes the BBC's announcement that it will stream over 1000 hours of extra sport a year. Along with the BBC Connected Sport app, this will allow greater access for fans across the country to view sport. Government also welcomes the decision by Sky to show the final of the 2019 Cricket World Cup on free-to-air television (Channel 4 and More 4), giving millions of viewers the opportunity to unite behind the England team.</p><p />Sport England is investing over £1.2bn in grassroots sport over 2016-21 to ensure that there are opportunities for people from all backgrounds and levels of ability to get active.

We want tourism to continue to thrive and will continue to work closely with the tourism sector to ensure this happens as we leave the EU.</p><p> </p><p>The recently published Tourism Sector Deal demonstrates that both Government and industry are committed to growing our tourism sector, through improving workforce skills, improving our international offer for disabled visitors, developing the concept of Tourism Zones to provide targeted support for specific areas and increasing investment in accommodation across the country.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p><strong></strong>On 10th July this year, my department launched the review of the guidance which sets out the statutory duty placed on local authorities to provide appropriate local youth services. Preliminary roundtables were held with youth sector organisations and young people through the Government’s Youth Steering Group, focussing on the strengths and weaknesses of the current guidance. A public call for evidence is the next step of this process and will be announced in due course.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Advertising in the UK is regulated by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), the industry’s independent regulator, which enforces the Advertising Codes through a system of self-regulation and co-regulation with Ofcom. The Codes apply to all media, including broadcast and online. They incorporate all relevant legislation and set standards for accuracy and honesty to which advertisers must adhere, including specific conditions on advertising to children, causing offence and social responsibility.</p><p> </p><p>The ASA is recognised by the government, the courts and trading standards as the ‘established means’ for the enforcement of misleading advertising, and the Codes include rules designed to ensure that advertisers do not mislead consumers. It has a range of sanctions it can take against non-compliant advertisers and, as a last resort, can refer some to Trading Standards.</p><p> </p><p>The ASA and Ofcom have both taken action in relation to broadband speeds. In May 2018, the ASA implemented new guidance that requires broadband speed claims in adverts to be based on the download speeds available to at least 50% of customers at peak time and no longer on 'up to' speeds available to at least 10% of customers.</p><p> </p><p>In March 2019, Ofcom introduced an updated Broadband Speeds Code of Practice, which all the major communication providers have signed up to. Under this code, companies have to provide consumers with a minimum guaranteed speed at the point of sale. If a consumer’s speed then drops below this level, companies have one month to improve performance, before they must allow consumers to leave their contract without penalty. This right to exit also applies to landline and TV packages, which are purchased at the same time as broadband services.</p>

star this property answer text <p>All parts of the plan for exporting objects of cultural interest in the event of a no deal Brexit are in place:</p><p> </p><ul><li>A statutory instrument (SI 2018 no. 1186) will revoke the relevant EU regulations in relation to the export of cultural objects on exit day, if there’s no deal. Only export licences under UK legislation will be needed.</li></ul><p> </p><ul><li>The existing statutory guidance will be amended. A draft amended version is available now on the Arts Council website for information.</li></ul><p> </p><ul><li>The Export Licensing Unit at the Arts Council will announce a date after which they cannot guarantee to process and issue EU export licences before exit day.</li></ul> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Artificial intelligence and automation present enormous opportunities for our economy. Some studies suggest that artificial intelligence could add 10% to the UK GDP by 2030. Other studies highlight the benefits that artificial intelligence and automation could bring to specific sectors.</p><p> </p><p>For example, the independent “Made Smarter” review, published in October 2017, estimated that digital technologies, such as robotics, artificial intelligence, and additive manufacturing, could add £455bn to the UK manufacturing economy over the next decade.</p><p> </p><p>For that reason, under our modern Industrial Strategy, we have taken the following steps to support automation where and when it is appropriate and is for the betterment of society:</p><p> </p><ul><li>£558m of the £1.7bn Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund is related to automation;</li><li>Investment across UKRI partners for robotics, autonomous systems and AI for physical systems since 2014 totals £366m and has attracted a further £153m leverage from private sector or other public bodies;<br></li><li>The AI Sector Deal, published in April 2018, is worth up to£950m and is already delivering pioneering skills and data initiatives to create the jobs and markets of tomorrow; <br></li><li>Government is backing Made Smarter as our key industrial digitalisation programme, including through up to £121m investment into the Made Smarter digital manufacturing challenge to increase manufacturing productivity by up to 30%;</li><ul><li>In addition, Government is investing £20m into the Made Smarter North West pilot for adoption of digital technology, which includes robotics and automation;</li><li>Growth Hubs provide an important one stop shop for businesses seeking to improve their productivity. The £20m Made Smarter North-West Pilots will engage 3,000 SME manufacturers across the north west to improve their productivity, administered through Growth Hubs; and <br></li></ul><li>The UK’s Catapult network helps bridge the gap between businesses and the expertise of the UK’s world-class research in automation. In August 2018, Government committed a further £780m over the next 5 years, which will be match funded with over £1.5bn in industry R&amp;D.</li></ul><p> </p>

Government is exploring various mechanisms for doing this and an update on progress will be provided in the first annual report on tackling loneliness, expected to be published later this year.</p><p><strong> </strong></p><p>The guidance for the Family Test is currently being refreshed and consideration of loneliness is included in the draft text. star this property answer text <p>As announced in last year’s loneliness strategy, ‘A connected society - A strategy for tackling loneliness’, the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, in collaboration with the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, has partnered with the Local Government Association to run a series of pilots to explore how local authorities and their partners can capture and share information on local activities and support that might help to tackle loneliness.</p><p>Partners across local government, digital experts and representatives from the voluntary sector have helped to shape the scope of the pilots. Building on existing work carried out with local authorities to provide quality assured categorised place-wide service data, these pilots will seek to test and refine data standards and taxonomies, investigate ways of collecting information to make them more efficient, accurate and sustainable, and explore how stakeholders from a range of sectors can be motivated to capture this data and keep it up to date. Data and learning will be published in order to encourage wider take-up by other local authorities by the end of March 2020.</p><p>Local authority areas in England have now been selected through an expression of interest process, details of which will be announced later this year.</p>
