<p>The Autumn Budget 2017 announced funding for the Trans-Pennine Initiative, as part of the National Productivity Investment Fund. The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport is currently working with Network Rail to deliver gigabit-cable fibre infrastructure along the existing rail route between Manchester and York. This project is nearing completion, and announcements will be expected later in 2019. This reflects the Government’s commitment to improve telecoms on the railway network and for rural communities.</p><p> </p>
