	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 21/02/2022 answer text <p>Pursuant to answer of 1 February to Question 11694 and answer of 26 June 2020 to Question 28755, there have not been any changes to internal management information processes or publication standard that have changed within the last two years.</p><p>The Home Office remains committed to routinely publishing information which shows the number of cases in the entire asylum system outstanding, however some data we are unable to provide as it is not easily aggregated, can only be obtained at disproportionate costs or not held in a reportable format.</p><p>However, data on case age can be found in ASY_03 of the published Transparency data:</p><p><a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/migration-transparency-data" target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/migration-transparency-data</a></p><p>Whilst there are a number of older outstanding cases in the system, these are more complex cases which generally have barriers that prevents an initial asylum decision being made. Members written correspondence within 20 working days.</p><p>Performance has been impacted by a very significant increase in the volume of correspondence received, including the unprecedented amount of correspondence about the situation in Afghanistan. Ministers and officials have also had to instigate a remote process for drafting and signing correspondence during the period of COVID-19 restrictions.</p><p>The Department recognises it has not been able to meet service standard in some cases but has implemented an action plan to clear backlogs and drive up performance. The Department has recruited additional resources and expects to return to answering Hon. Member’s correspondence within service standard by the end of March 2022.</p><p>Data about intake and performance in answering Hon. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 21/02/2022 answer text <p>The Home Office publishes statistics on people entering, leaving and in detention in the ‘<a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/immigration-statistics-quarterly-release" target="_blank">Immigration Statistics Quarterly Release</a>’. This data is broken down by asylum and non-asylum related detainees and are published in table Det_01 of the ‘<a href="https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/1033887/detention-summary-sep-2021-tables.ods" target="_blank">Detention summary tables</a>’.</p><p>“Asylum-related detainees” relates to detainees who have claimed asylum at some point, not just while in detention and also includes failed asylum seekers as well as those with open claims. The data therefore is not a direct count of people who applied for asylum while in detention.</p><p>Data on people leaving detention while their asylum claim is considered are included in the ‘Bailed (Secretary of State or SoS)’ category and are published in table Det_04a of the ‘<a href="https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/1033887/detention-summary-sep-2021-tables.ods" target="_blank">Detention summary tables</a>’ with the latest data being for the year ending September 2021.
