We are concerned by the high levels of poverty, unemployment, food insecurity, and the impacts of the humanitarian situation on children. The World Health Organisation (WHO) in a report on 31 May titled ‘The Gaza trauma response’, noted that from 30th March 2018 to 30th March 2019, during the ‘Great March of Return’ demonstrations, 172 people became permanently disabled because of their injuries, of whom 36 were children.</p><p> </p><p>The UK is committed to help the growing needs of approximately 1.5 million registered refugees in Gaza through support to the UN Refugees and Works Agency (UNRWA). Between 2019-2020, the UK will provide up to £80m to UNRWA. UNRWA runs over 274 schools and educates over 278,000 children in Gaza. We are providing £2 million to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to help support several of the most urgent health needs in Gaza, including drugs, surgical equipment and physical rehabilitation for people with disabilities. We note the initial progress achieved by the parties towards phase one of the redeployment of forces in Hodeidah and urge the parties to take the necessary next steps, in accordance with the agreed concept of operations, towards full implementation of the Hodeidah Agreement. We have particular concerns in Egypt regarding Article 122 of the Child Law in Egypt and cases involving the death penalty and juveniles. Embassy officials have repeatedly raised Ahmed Saddouma's case with the Egyptian authorities since September 2018 – most recently on 9 May. We closely monitored his appeal and a UK official attended the hearing on 8 June. The Embassy team in Riyadh have raised the issue of the execution of minors in Saudi Arabia four times in the last month. We will raise our concerns regarding Mr Qureiris’s case with the Saudi authorities. The Embassy team have applied for permission to attend any further trial sessions.</strong></p><p>It is a longstanding practice of the British Government to oppose the death penalty, in all circumstances, as a matter of principle, in every country, including Saudi Arabia. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 18/06/2019 answer text <p>The UK is a long-standing supporter of the polio eradication efforts led by the Global Polio Eradication Initiative. These efforts have been incredibly successful, seeing a 99% reduction in cases of polio over the last 30 years.</p><p> </p><p>The Global Polio Eradication Initiative has recently published its new strategic plan for the next phase of eradication activities, until 2023. The strategy does not commit to eradicate Polio by a certain date, as we know that the virus is still circulating in the most difficult environments where it’s extremely hard to reach every last child, such as parts of Afghanistan and Pakistan. There will be a Polio moment in November when international donors are expected to announce ongoing commitment to the global eradication efforts.
