	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 21/04/2023 answer text <p><ins class="ministerial">The R&amp;R Programme is carrying out tens of thousands of hours of complex building surveys and investigations to develop even more detailed records of the Palace of Westminster. These records are being used to inform design and planning, and future decisions on the essential restoration work required. </ins></p><p><ins class="ministerial"> </ins></p><p><ins class="ministerial">Two intrusive surveys, the Photogrammetric and Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning (HVAC) surveys, have recently started which contain an element of drone surveys as well as other activities such as high-resolution photography. The total estimated cost of these surveys is £1 million although this covers a number of activities.</ins></p><p><ins class="ministerial"> </ins></p><p><ins class="ministerial">Due to how the activity schedules in these contracts are priced it is not possible to disaggregate the costs of the drone flights from the rest of the works being undertaken. However, it is anticipated that a significant portion of the costs will relate to the contractor resource required to deliver the surveys and the processing of the images taken (rather than the cost of the drones themselves).</ins></p><p><ins class="ministerial"> </ins></p><p><ins class="ministerial">This figure also does not include Delivery Authority internal staffing costs or the costs of the contractor planning and overseeing the overall survey programme because those costs cannot be disaggregated by individual survey.</ins></p><p><del class="ministerial">The R&amp;R Programme is carrying out tens of thousands of hours of complex building surveys and investigations to develop even more detailed records of the Palace of Westminster. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 09/05/2023 answer text <p>Individual Members of Parliament (MPs) are data controllers and therefore are subject to the Data Protection Act 2018.</p><p>For the processing of non-sensitive personal data in relation to casework, Members can usually rely on the implied consent of a constituent.</p><p>There are additional protections for processing “special category” data because of its sensitivity. This type of data includes information revealing a person’s racial origin, ethnic origin, health details, sexual orientation, and political and philosophical beliefs.</p><p>For MPs, paragraphs 23 and 24 of Schedule 1 of the 2018 Act have two main functions that apply when a constituent has contacted them:</p><p /><ul><li>Paragraph 23 sets out when a Member of Parliament (or someone acting with their authority) can process certain “special category” data about an individual, in the course of the Member’s “functions as a representative” (e.g. constituency casework), without having to establish explicit consent.</li><li>Paragraph 24 allows, but does not require, others (e.g. agencies or organisations) who are contacted by Members to disclose special category personal data to them where this is necessary to help with their functions, without having to obtain the explicit consent of the individual concerned.</li></ul><p><br>Whilst provisions have been made within the Act that recognise the key role Members have in supporting constituents, the legislation also ensures the continued right of an individual over their own data. This will therefore continue to mean that individuals should have the right to decide on whether their data is transferred to a members’ successor following a General Election.</p><p>As the House is not responsible for personal data processed by MPs (constituents' data, staff data, etc.) this is not a matter for the Commission. The losses range in scale from loss of power to sockets in an individual room to temporary loss of power to a floor in a building.</p><p>These incidents have been recorded in buildings across the Estate; 17 in the Palace of Westminster and 35 spread across the other buildings on the Estate.</p><p>The records do not include (a) the loss of power to some buildings the Northern Estate due to flooding in 2021 and (b) planned maintenance or construction work that requires shutdown of power. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 11/01/2024 answer text <p>It is not possible to give a fair and accurate number spent on the (a) purchase and (b) installation of all fire doors in the Palace of Westminster since 2010. This is because fire doors are routinely refurbished or replaced as part of wider projects, and information recorded on building and maintenance projects does not specifically identify which involved installing new fire doors.</p><p>There was a fire door and compartmentation project that took place from 2016–2020. This project focused on the refurbishment and conservation of doors, rather than the installation of new doors. The team worked on 721 doors across the Palace of Westminster, only a handful of which were purchased and installed as new. The total cost of the project amounted to £5.2 million, which covered not only the work on the doors but out of hours working (so as not to disrupt the business of the House) and work to replace glazed panels or large bespoke doors.</p><p>It would not be possible to break down the cost by door nor the cost to install the small number of new doors that were purchased as part of this particular project.</p><p>As a member of the Parliamentary Fire Safety Committee, I would be happy to take forward any concerns from the right hon. It is not possible to break down this amount according to works repairing pest damage.</p><p>In February 2023, the Heritage Collections team treated 17 pieces of the Historic Furniture and Decorative Arts collection for moth infestation at a total cost of £4,512.81+VAT.
