Authorities are allowed to procure goods, services and works with extreme urgency in exceptional circumstances using regulation 32(2)(c) under the Public Contract Regulations 2015. We have made it clear that authorities must continue to achieve value for money for taxpayers and use good commercial judgement in the awarding of contracts.

As of the beginning of June, 636 contracts have been awarded by the Department to private sector companies worth approximately £6.2 billion by the Department. The value is based on Purchase Orders raised which still have to be validated. star this property answer text
We are delivering on our historic long-term settlement for the National Health Service, which will see funding increase by £33.9 billion by 2023-24. We are now confirming an additional £3 billion for the NHS next year, on top of the long-term settlement, to support the recovery from the impact of COVID-19.

Further funding to help ensure the NHS can continue to meet the ongoing costs of tackling COVID-19 will also be set out in the New Year. This will then allow planning guidance for 2021-22 to be communicated to the system and for individual organisations such as Manchester Royal Infirmary and Withington Hospital to agree financial plans. The Government is working with NHS England and NHS Improvement to ensure the NHS has all it needs to plan effectively ahead of the new financial year in April.
more like this

star this property answer text
There are no current plans to review or extend the prescription charge medical exemptions list to include long term conditions such as sickle cell disease. Approximately 89% of prescriptions are dispensed free of charge and there are arrangements in place to help those with the greatest need. Eligibility depends on the patient’s age, whether they are in qualifying full-time education, whether they are pregnant or have recently given birth, or whether they are in receipt of certain benefits or a war pension. Those with sickle cell disease may therefore meet the eligibility criteria for prescription charge exemptions and in receipt of free prescriptions.
more like this
