star this property answer text <p>The latest Tech Nation report showed the UK attracts more VC tech investment than any other European nation, with £6.3 billion raised in 2018. The UK is both a leading global financial hub and an Artificial Intelligence (AI) hub, home to more AI start-ups than any other European country with over 1000 companies and 600 investors.</p><p> </p><p>Last month during London Tech Week, my department announced a further £1.2 billion of new foreign direct investment in the UK tech sector which will create more than 850 jobs.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Once the UK has left the EU, we will have the opportunity to consider how we may strengthen the UK-Canada trading relationship. We do not currently have performance targets linked to how that might be achieved through a new comprehensive free trade agreement, since our priority remains working with Canada and businesses to seek as smooth a transition of the existing trading relationship as possible as we leave the EU. This includes the transition of CETA into a UK-Canada agreement. My Rt Hon. Friend the Secretary of State for International Trade gave an update on the status of these discussions at the International Trade Committee on 3 July.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>We welcome the news of political conclusion between the EU and Mercosur on a Free Trade Agreement. As a global champion of trade, the UK has been a strong advocate for these negotiations. The UK has longstanding positive bilateral relationships with individual Mercosur countries and we look forward to deepening our trading ties as we leave the EU. We will be working with our Mercosur partners to develop our future trade relationship in due course.</p><p> </p><p>The EU-Mercosur agreement contains a number of ambitious provisions on promoting sustainable development. star this property answer text <p>The UK is preparing to strengthen its trade ties with international partners, including China and India post EU-exit.</p><p> </p><p>In January 2018, the UK and China launched a Joint Trade and Investment Review to explore options to enhance their trade and investment relationship, without pre-judging outcomes. My Rt Hon. Friend the Secretary of State for International Trade visited China five times in 2018 to discuss our ambition for a strong trade partnership.</p><p> </p><p>The UK-India Joint Trade Review, announced during the Prime Minister’s visit to India in 2016, has helped us better understand the UK-India trade relationship. In April 2018, both Prime Ministers agreed to forge a new trade partnership, to take forward recommendations from the Review. This work is being progressed through the Joint Working Group on trade which has met eight times since November 2016.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>In the event of the UK leaving the EU with a negotiated agreement, the UK and EU have agreed that existing international agreements would apply as they do today for the duration of the implementation period.</p><p> </p><p>Nevertheless, we have been working with our trading partners to have bilateral agreements ready in place for when we need them, whether that is after an Implementation Period or for a potential No Deal. We have signed or agreed in principle agreements with 32 countries. Total trade in 2018 between the UK and these countries accounted for 63% of the UK’s trade with all the countries with which the UK is seeking continuity in the event of a potential No Deal.<sup>1</sup> That has moved from 28% since March. They cover 65 countries that are party to 35 agreements. These are the countries covered by existing EU agreements in force in 2018. This excludes Turkey, Andorra, San Marino which are part of customs unions with the EU, and Japan, as the Economic Partnership Agreement only came into force on 1<sup>st</sup> February 2019.</p>

star this property answer text <p>If the UK leaves the European Union without an agreement, the EU will be required to apply its MFN tariff regime to all UK exports, in compliance to WTO regulations.
