star this property answer text <p>The UK played a key role in the agreement of an ambitious IMO Greenhouse Gas Strategy in April 2018. The Government is committed to the IMO’s 2050 goal and broader ambition to fully decarbonise the international shipping industry.</p><p> </p><p>The UK continues to play an active role at the IMO to ensure that the ambitions in the strategy are met, and that short and mid-term measures are agreed and adopted as soon as possible. The UK is working with international partners and industry on measures to encourage a global transition to low and zero carbon marine energy sources.</p><p> </p><p>The Government will be publishing the UK’s first ‘Clean Maritime Plan’ later this summer, which will outline how we intend to support the transition to zero emissions shipping in the UK.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>In January 2019 the Government published Maritime 2050, which set out strategic ambitions for the future of the maritime sector, including a vision for zero emission shipping. In Maritime 2050, we committed to assess how economic instruments could support the transition to zero emission shipping in the medium to long term. We also committed to consider whether and how the Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation (RTFO) could be used to encourage the uptake of low carbon fuels in maritime.</p><p> </p><p>Government will this week publish the Clean Maritime Plan, which will set out further detail on our plans to create incentives for shipping companies to reduce both air quality pollutant emissions and carbon dioxide. I will make a further statement to the House on the measures included within the plan on the day of publication.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Maritime and Coastguard Agency routinely invite a range of Government and industry stakeholders to a preparatory briefing meeting prior to each International Maritime Organisation session, including the Maritime Safety Committee (MSC).</p><p> </p><p>At these meetings the attendees will discuss the maritime issues on the agenda and provide advice on these issues. Both the UK Government and its maritime stakeholders are committed to maritime safety including (a) seafarer and (b) ferry industry safety. No specific discussions on either of these issues were raised at this session of the MSC.</p><p> </p><p>Some areas of discussion were on: the development of further measures to enhance safety of ships relating to fuel oil; shipborne towing and mooring; testing of lifesaving appliances; and, proposed new outputs for the Organisation, which will have an effect on the overall safety of seafarers.</p> more like this

However, tunnel options in this area have not been progressed due to the significant length of the tunnel, significant cost impacts and flood risk. HS2 Ltd will continue to work with the local community to minimise the impact of HS2, including appropriate mitigation where necessary.</p> more like this

Tunnel options in this area have not been progressed due to the significant length of the tunnel, significant cost impacts and flood risk. HS2 Ltd continues to refine the station design, taking into consideration the environment, cost and views of local stakeholders. star this property answer text <p>The Bus Services Act 2017 introduced new bus franchising powers for local authorities as well as providing other tools such as Enhanced Partnerships to improve bus services.</p><p> </p><p>Officials have met with a number of interested local authorities to help them understand the opportunities in the Act to improve bus services in their area. It is up to individual local authorities to decide what powers in the act to use and the Department has published guidance and continues to provide advice when requested to those that are taking plans forward.</p> more like this
