	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 12/06/2019 answer text <p>The Government is committed to developing an inclusive transport system which disabled people can use easily, comfortably and without additional cost, and it is essential that taxi and private hire vehicle services play their part in making this happen.</p><p> </p><p>In 2017, the Government commenced legislation to prevent wheelchair users from being refused carriage or charged extra. The report of the Task and Finish Group was published on 24 September 2018.</p><p>On 12 February 2019 the Government published a response to the recommendations made by the Chair of the Task and Finish Group - <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/taxi-and-private-hire-vehicle-licensing-government-response-to-independent-report" target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/taxi-and-private-hire-vehicle-licensing-government-response-to-independent-report</a>.</p><p>As indicated in the response, the Government will consider further, with a view to legislation, the Chair's recommendation around tackling cross-border working, including how it might work in detail.</p><p>The Task and Finish Group was made up of external stakeholders and the Group sought and received representations from a range of stakeholders within the taxi and PHV sector. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 23/05/2019 answer text <p>Sections 168 and 170 of the Equality Act 2010 already require taxi and PHV drivers to accept passengers accompanied by assistance dogs without charging them extra. The Government expects drivers to comply with the law and encourages local licensing authorities to take robust action against those unwilling to do so. Drivers convicted of a relevant offence face fines of up to £1000.</p><p> </p><p>The Government is considering what further action might be required to eliminate illegal discrimination against assistance dog owners, and has accepted the recommendation of the Chair of the Task and Finish Group on Taxi and PHV licensing that drivers should be required to complete disability awareness training through the introduction of National Minimum Standards.
