star this property answer text <p>The hepatitis C elimination programme is currently managed by a specialist team at NHS England and NHS Improvement. Policy, interventions, and funding are developed and delivered through 22 nationally commissioned local clinical teams or Operational Delivery Networks. The national team work collaboratively with both regional teams and local systems to ensure the delivery and oversight of diagnostic and treatment pathways at a local level. As integrated care systems become operational, subject to the passage of legislation, the programme will work with them to ensure that all opportunities to identify and support patients are realised.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) supports and monitors progress towards the World Health Organisation goal of eliminating hepatitis C virus (HCV) as a major public health threat by 2030. NHS England has publicly committed to the elimination of HCV in England in advance of the World Health Organization’s target of 2030, aiming to eliminate by 2025.</p><p>Work to support the elimination maintenance phase is currently being developed. It will involve multiple stakeholders including NHS England Specialised Commissioning, integrated care boards (ICBs), the Department, and the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA). In addition, commissioning arrangements for HCV elimination are expected to be devolved to local levels, with ICBs managing funding for issues such as testing and treatment. UKHSA will continue to monitor maintenance of elimination through routine surveillance data.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Peer programmes are a well embedded and demonstrably effective part of NHS England’s Hepatitis C (HCV) Elimination Programme. Almost every elimination initiative that NHS England manages and commissions HCV Operational Delivery Networks to provide, at local and sub-regional levels, has peer involvement. NHS England consistently finds that people with lived experience are excellent advocates and are crucial in developing therapeutic alliances to support people into testing and treatment who may have felt excluded from traditional healthcare and other settings.</p><p> </p><p>The Government will continue to review opportunities for using peer-to-peer support workers and volunteers with lived experience to support other areas of healthcare.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>NHS England and NHS Improvement's national hepatitis C elimination programme’s total annual elimination initiative’s expenditure, for which information is available, is as follows:</p><p>- 2021/22 - £20 million (budgeted);</p><p>- 2020/21 - £15 million; and</p><p>- 2019/20 - £9 million.</p><p>Prior to 2019/20, there was no dedicated elimination initiative funding. Regions were funded based on expenditure incurred by their providers and allocated on a monthly basis. NHS England and NHS Improvement have confirmed the budget provided each year has allowed the needs of the elimination programme to be fully met and expects the required budget to be made available for the duration of the programme.</p> more like this
