It is a great opportunity to set out the Government’s innovative agenda highlighted in Maritime 2050.</p><p> </p><p>We have spent around £25,000 in previous years (2013, 2015 and 2017). 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 22/07/2019 answer text <p>In June 2019, the UK became the first major economy to legislate for net zero emissions, setting a target for 2050. Emissions for UK domestic shipping fall within this target. Although emissions from international shipping and aviation are not formally included within the legislation at this point, it is essential that these sectors play their role. To ensure we are on the right trajectory for net zero emissions across the economy, we will continue to leave ‘headroom’ for international shipping and aviation emissions in our carbon budgets. Government continues to be of the view that action to tackle emissions from these sectors must be done globally to be effective. The UK will continue to take a leadership role at the IMO, pushing for the most ambitious measures to deliver the vision, and emission reduction targets, of the IMO GHG Strategy.</p><p> </p><p>The Clean Maritime Plan sets out aspirational goals for the sector, not mandatory targets. These goals encompass both international and domestic shipping in UK waters. Since April, Departments have reviewed the planning assumptions and developed new assumptions based on the most recent information from Member States and in light of the extension to 31 October 2019. These assumptions are focused on a reasonable worst case scenario, rather than what we expect to happen, and have already been shared with key partners to support revision of contingency plans, where appropriate, for a potential no deal scenario on 31 October. These planning assumptions remain under review throughout the planning process. Both the UK Government and its maritime stakeholders are committed to maritime safety including (a) seafarer and (b) ferry industry safety. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 24/06/2019 answer text <p>The International Maritime Organization (IMO) will release an outcome report of the 101st session of the Maritime Safety Committee in due course. This will detail the outcome of each item at the session.</p><p> </p><p>There were 23 agenda items and 140 papers discussed and the UK had agreed positions for each of the policies.</p><p> </p><p>Some of the key safety items from the session were the regulatory scoping exercise on Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships, goal-based standards and safety level approach, safety of ships in polar waters, development of further measures to enhance the safety of ships relating to the use of fuel oil, e-navigation and domestic ferry safety.</p><p> </p><p>The UK Government is committed to working with the IMO and other Member States to work towards maintaining and improving safety standards across the wider maritime sector as a whole.</p><p> </p><p>The UK will endeavour to block inappropriate or disproportionate legislation that the UK considers may place an undue burden on industry, and to work tactically with other States to achieve UK lines.</p><p><strong> </strong></p> answering member constituency Wealden answering member printed Ms Nusrat Ghani question first answered 24/06/2019 15:11:54 answering member 4460 label Biography information for Ms Nusrat Ghani
