star this property answer text <p>Operators are required to report certain incidents to the MCA and the Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB). The MCA will liaise with the operator directly and no formal reports are published.</p><p> </p><p>Between the beginning of 2010 and the end of 2018, the MAIB received reports of 44 accidents and incidents on the River Thames in the Greater London area that involved vessels in the Thames Clipper fleet and 190 accidents and incidents involving other passenger vessels on the Thames (excluding large sea-going vessels e.g. cruise ships). Investigations are carried out where the MAIB believes there are lessons for the industry to learn and then publishes reports on its investigations online.</p> more like this

The Department is working to achieve the best possible outcome for passengers and taxpayers. An announcement will be made in due course.</p><p> </p><p>As the Secretary of State announced on 10 April 2019, the Department for Transport is currently in discussions with the incumbent operator to extend their operation of the franchise to 10 November 2019, with an extension period up to 1 April 2020 called at the Secretary of State’s discretion.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Department considers all aspects that may affect the rail and road network when assessing the changes of demand for the future.</p><p> </p><ol><li><p>The Department updated its rail forecasting guidance in 2016 to take into account different trip rates for people in different age groups and occupations. This was based on analysis of the National Travel Survey. The Department continues to review its forecasts, including analysing the impact of flexible working. The Departments’ guidance feeds into business cases for rail investments and franchise analysis. The guidance is called ‘WebTAG’ and is published on the Department’s website</p></li><li><p>The ‘Latest Evidence on Factors Impacting Road Traffic Growth’ review published by the Department in May 2018 included reviews of tele-commuting and the impact of e-commerce and social media on travel. The findings from this research informed the development of the Draft ‘Road Investment Strategy 2’.</p></li></ol> more like this

In November 2017, the Secretary of State said in A Strategic Vision for Rail that the challenge to our partners was to work with Government and the industry to develop compelling proposals for the next generation of rail schemes, identifying the places where rail is the right answer for local transport needs. All schemes would need to demonstrate a strong business case where they are seeking any available Government funding.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Government has recently strengthened the National Planning Policy Framework to support the take-up of cycling and walking within local development plans.</p><p>The Department for Transport is currently updating existing guidance set out in Local Transport Note 2/08 to ensure that streets are better designed to lower barriers for people choosing to cycle.</p><p>The Department has also revised the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions to enable the use of many innovative cycling measures, such as low-level cycle signals, a new parallel crossing for pedestrians and cyclists, and new ways of signing cycling and walking routes.</p> more like this
