unstar this property answer text <p>The Government wants the UK to have high-quality mobile coverage where people live, work and travel, including Scotland, and we are committed to extending geographic mobile coverage to 95% of the UK.</p><p>There is currently 77% 4G geographic coverage from at least one Mobile Network Operator for the Stirling Local Authority area, up from 49% in June 2017. We are in discussions with the Mobile Network Operators about their proposal for a Shared Rural Network to improve coverage. We will consider all options.</p><p>I also welcome Ofcom’s proposal for their forthcoming spectrum auction, which aims to deliver two operators to 90% geographic mobile coverage.</p> more like this

Improving mobile coverage in rural areas is also a priority. unstar this property answer text <p>The Online Harms White Paper set out the Government's plans for world-leading legislation to make the UK the safest place in the world to be online. We intend to establish a new statutory duty of care on companies towards their users, overseen by an independent regulator, to ensure companies have appropriate processes in place to deal with harmful content on their service, and keep their users safe. Disinformation is one of the harms proposed to be in scope of the regulator.</p><p> </p><p>The White Paper also set out a commitment for Government to develop a new online Media Literacy Strategy. The strategy will help citizens to think critically about the content that they are consuming, and to better identify disinformation online.</p> more like this

It will make companies more responsible for their users' safety online, especially children and other vulnerable groups.</p><p> </p><p>A vibrant, independent, pluralistic and free press is essential to our democracy. As set out in the former Secretary of State's letter to the Society of Editors, the White Paper's proposals do not impact journalistic and editorial content and will not interfere with the current approach to press regulation.</p><p> </p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>DCMS Ministers have regular discussions with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office on a range of cyber security topics, including in relation to the UK’s telecommunications networks.</p><p> </p><p>Widespread deployment of 5G and full fibre networks is a primary objective of Government policy. The Government published the Telecoms Supply Chain Review in July, which recommended the introduction of a new framework for telecoms security based on evidence and a hard-headed assessment of the risks. The Government has not yet made a final decision on individual high risk vendors and the additional controls that will be applied to them.</p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>The Government is committed to becoming a world leader in 5G, and to provide access to a 5G signal for the majority of the population by 2027. The Future Telecoms Infrastructure Review set out the Government’s plan to create the right conditions for the deployment of 5G across the UK.</p><p> </p><p>It is important to note that the vast majority of commercial rollout of 5G services will be delivered by industry, according to their own timeframes. All four Mobile Network Operators have confirmed plans to launch 5G services this year and will extend coverage to 50 towns and cities by the end of 2020.</p><p> </p><p>Government is committed to ensuring that world-class connectivity is provided across the UK, wherever people live, work and travel. Good 4G mobile coverage will be central in laying the foundation for 5G rollout across the entire country.</p><p> </p><p>Government is also taking action to build the business case for 5G by investing in a nationally coordinated testbed and trials programme. As part of this programme Government is testing 5G use cases across a range of sectors including in rural settings.</p>
