A high proportion of charities are based in cities and towns, or have their main office in London, but deliver activity and services to a much wider area. Figures often don’t reflect the spread of activity and the overall offer of services and projects funded by The National Lottery Community Fund within a particular constituency. Use of our waterways by all can be a creative and fun way to engage with the natural world and to stay healthy.</p><p> </p><p>Sport England is actively engaged with British Canoeing and the Canal and River Trust to get more people from all backgrounds active. For charities to thrive, the sector needs a strong and effective regulator. Last year additional government funding of £5m per year was agreed in recognition of the growing pressures on the Commission’s core regulatory functions, particularly registration and compliance. In January 2018, the government awarded the Commission an additional £5m per year from April 2018 to help respond to increasing demand on its core regulatory functions. This funding was awarded as an interim solution, while the Commission considers longer term, more sustainable funding models, including consulting on charging the largest charities.
