star this property answer text <p><del class="ministerial">The House of Commons Commission has agreed a number of actions to promote responsible alcohol consumption on the Parliamentary Estate.</del> <ins class="ministerial">On 19 March 2018, the House of Commons Commission endorsed the recommendations of the Administration Committee to help to promote responsible drinking in Commons catering venues. The Commission also agreed to return to this matter on a six-monthly basis. The Commission did so on 29 October 2018, also giving due weight to the reference to access to alcohol within the Dame Laura Cox report on bullying and harassment. On 17 December 2018 the Commission agreed a number of actions to promote responsible alcohol consumption on the Parliamentary Estate.</ins> These include<ins class="ministerial">d</ins> increasing the range of non-alcoholic drinks and lower strength beers available, training and supporting staff to refuse to serve customers when necessary, expanding and encouraging alcohol-free areas including all six House of Commons cafeterias (Bellamy's, Courtyard Café, Debate, Jubilee Café, Members' Tea Room, Terrace Cafeteria), discouraging Members and staff from drinking in offices after bars are shut, and not running promotional advertisements.</p>

The contract was awarded following an open procurement carried out in 2015/16. It was awarded to Jones Yarrell Leadenhall (Menzies Distribution Plc) for an initial three year period with the option to extend for a further two years.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Commission has had no discussions with the Metropolitan Police about the closure.</p><p>Exit three from Westminster tube station has been closed until 2021 to ensure that works to conserve the Elizabeth Tower can continue safely.</p><p>This decision was taken by Parliament’s Strategic Estates Team and the appointed contractor, in close consultation with Transport for London, the Metropolitan Police and Westminster City Council. The Parliamentary Security Directorate were also consulted.</p><p>Hoardings have been erected to direct members of the public, which will remain in place throughout the duration of the project.</p><p>The closure is an additional safety measure for members of the public given the proximity of that exit to the base of the Elizabeth Tower.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Pass Office recently introduced a Netcall telephone management system in order to monitor calls. In general, this shows that the Pass Office is receiving an increased volume of calls. This reflects a 17% increase in the number of pass applications, from 10,849 in 2017 to 12,940 in 2018. In particular, the Pass Office experienced a large increase in calls following the Christmas break. This coincided with a period when the Pass Office was suffering from staff shortages. While this is now being addressed, it has meant that the office currently has fewer people dedicated to responding to calls, as the back-office team also perform duties such as processing security clearance applications.</p><p>The Pass Office is keen to ensure good customer service. As calls to the Pass Office are often to check on the status of applications, callers are being advised to email the Pass Office with the relevant information. This is so that Pass Office staff can then respond more effectively and swiftly to these enquiries. The Pass Office encourages e-mail enquiries as the best way customers can get a quick update on the status of an application.</p>

star this property answer text <p>The welfare of our staff is of course our principal concern. Whilst the issue of supplementary heating has not been raised by any of the Doorkeepers through the usual management channels, I can confirm that the situation has already been assessed and a simple solution, involving the closing of a fire door, has been identified, which will be implemented immediately, subject to consultation with the fire safety team. In addition, the high level windows in library corridor, which had been contributing to a cold draught in the corridor, have now all been closed.<br></p><p>The Doorkeepers are on post for a maximum of 30 minutes at a time, and the post is rotated daily between a team of 11 Doorkeepers, so the team should find that the proposed solution will deliver immediate benefits to their working environment.<br></p><p>The Library Corridor is not presently heated. It is lined on both sides with bookcases which means there is nowhere to install any radiators, and the pipework to do so currently does not exist.</p>

star this property answer text <p>Mail is collected from the SW1 delivery office in Pensbury Place, London, SW8 by the mail screening contractor at the following times (Mon-Fri) 01:30, 03:30, 04:30, 05:30, 07:00 &amp; 09:00. Post is security screened and subsequently delivered on the same day to the post room in PCH at 05:35, 06:45, 08:30, 10:00, 12:00 &amp; 13:40 where it is sorted and delivered to Members offices at 9am &amp; 12 noon.</p><p>Any signed for or Special Delivery items received after the 12 noon delivery are delivered to Members during the afternoon. All other items of post are delivered to Members the next day at 9am.</p><p>The Houses of Parliament have no control over delays to the post across the wider Royal Mail network.</p> more like this
