	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 17/03/2021 answer text <p>The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) Complex Casework Units (CCUs) undertake some of the most complex and serious casework handled by the CPS. A recent report published by Her Majesty’s Crown Prosecution Service Inspectorate (HMCSPI) found that CCUs are staffed by highly dedicated, skilled and professional teams who deliver high quality casework, often in demanding circumstances.</p><p> </p><p>CCUs are overseen through a structure of experienced legal managers including Unit Heads, Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutors and Chief Crown Prosecutors. The Report identified evidence of effective and regular meetings and conversations between lawyers and managers about casework. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 22/11/2022 answer text <p>The Government is clear that we must tackle the practice of 'land banking', where developers buy up land and leave it undeveloped for years, with no sign of building work taking place.</p><p>It is completely wrong that land with planning permission is left idle and undeveloped, with developers waiting for prices to rise and putting the profits of investors above the needs of local communities and families, who are deprived of desperately needed housing.</p><p>Through the Levelling Up and Regeneration Bill, we will be taking new powers to fix ‘land banking’ and slow build out.</p><p>First, the Bill will make developers commit to a build out trajectory and report annually to councils on their progress so they can be held directly to account. Second, when builders have missed their deadlines, our new streamlined approach to commencement notices will mean that councils can compel developers to ‘use or lose’ the permission. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 30/04/2019 answer text <p>Access to justice is a fundamental right and last year the government spent £1.6bn on legal aid.</p><p> </p><p>Legal aid is available in a wide range of cases across different jurisdictions. This includes crime, family, housing, immigration, and areas where human rights may have been breached. In most of these areas, applicants have to satisfy statutory means and merits tests.</p><p> </p><p>The legal aid fund is administered by the independent Legal Aid Agency, acting according to their statutory duty under the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Act 2012. Decisions on legal aid funding are made by the Director of Legal Aid Casework, who acts independently of Ministers.</p><p> </p><p>We recently published the post-implementation review of the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Act (LASPO). Alongside this we published the Legal Support Action Plan which outlines the steps the Government will be taking over the next two years to enhance the breadth of support to people experiencing legal problems. We have maintained that position for all elections that fall within the UK Parliament’s competence</p><p><br> The Scottish Parliament has competence over criminal justice and prisons in Scotland. Since 2016 it has also had competence over local government and Scottish parliamentary elections.
