	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 27/01/2020 answer text <p>The Gambling Commission requires all operators licensed under the Gambling Act 2005 to make a contribution towards the research, prevention and treatment of gambling-related harm. Most operators donate to GambleAware, a charity which commissions dedicated support for problem gamblers, as well as research and awareness-raising on gambling-related harm. For the 2018-19 financial year, operators donated £9.6<ins class="ministerial">m</ins><del class="ministerial">bn</del> to GambleAware, and industry body the Betting and Gaming Council estimates that operators gave a further £9.7m to other charities. For that same financial year, the gambling sector paid around £3bn to the exchequer in gambling taxes.</p><p>GambleAware commission support and treatment services for those suffering through gambling problems, including the National Gambling Helpline and counselling services provided by GamCare. GambleAware commissioned services complement those of NHS England who are scaling up treatment provision for problem gambling as part of the NHS Long-term plan. This will see up to 14 new specialist clinics open in the next 5 years, 2 of which have opened already. The Health Secretary has also announced that a cross-government addiction strategy, to include gambling, will be published in 2020.</p><p>In May 2018 the government published its response to the consultation on gaming machines and social responsibility measures, which made clear that if industry failed to provide the funding needed to meet current and future needs, government would consider all options, including a mandatory levy. We have engaged extensively with stakeholders to ensure we fully understand these changes and to support the sector with their preparations..</p><p> </p><p>We have also worked extensively with colleagues across government to ensure musicians and performers’ interests are being considered as we prepare to exit the EU. Specific advice regarding travel and working abroad can be found on the Government’s <a href="https://www.gov.uk/brexit" target="_blank">Get Ready For Brexit</a> webpage.</p><p> </p><p>We are ensuring that latest guidance and updates regarding how organisations can best prepare for travelling and working internationally forms a key part of our business readiness preparations. My department is holding bespoke arts industry workshops designed to support individuals and organisations in the arts, culture and heritage sectors as they prepare. We will ensure that these sectors continue to thrive and that collaboration with our European partners continues to flourish beyond our exit from the EU.</p><p><strong> </strong></p><p>My department benefits from, and greatly appreciates, the expertise and research carried out by trade organisations and umbrella bodies, like the Incorporated Society of Musicians.</p><p><strong> </strong></p><p>Journeys and routes around the EU are varied and unique to each musician. As such it is not possible to calculate a single accumulated cost.</p><p><strong> </strong></p><p>However, we have engaged extensively with the cultural sector, and understand the diverse circumstances of companies, organisations and individual practitioners and how they may need to adapt as we leave the EU. These include changes for visas, social security and movement of equipment, including instruments when moving around the EU. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 03/10/2019 answer text <p>A number of the projects funded by the £40 million Discover England Fund, launched by Government in 2016 and delivered by VisitEngland, are based in the West Midlands and aim to support and increase visits and spend by international tourists to the region through the provision of innovative, bookable itineraries and routes:</p><ul><li>The England’s Waterways project encourages visitors to explore the region by narrowboat, on bikes or on foot via its extensive network of canals and towpaths, and visit towns and cities such as Coventry and Warwick.</li><li>The England Originals project provides a range of multi-day rail itineraries starting in London that allow tourists to visit historic cities across England; the itinerary Thinkers and Writers includes Worcester and Stratford-upon-Avon.</li><li>The Experience England project is aimed at the millennial market in China, GCC countries and India, providing itineraries spanning cities and countryside that allow tourists to fly into one airport and out of another. One itinerary brings tourists to Birmingham and attractions such as the Bullring and Cadbury World<p> </p></li></ul><p>The region will also host two major arts and culture and sporting events in the coming years:</p><ul><li>In 2021, Coventry will be the host city for the UK City of Culture and in 2022 Birmingham will host the 22nd Commonwealth Games. The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport has and is continuing to support bringing both events in the West Midlands and both are expected to increase international interest and visitors.</li></ul><p><br> In the past three years, IPS data indicates that inbound tourism to the West Midlands has hit new heights, welcoming 2.38 million visitors in 2017 and 2.2 million in 2018. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 01/10/2019 answer text <p>Creativity, arts and heritage make our towns and cities unique and our communities better places to live, and we should celebrate the rich local heritage and culture of towns across the UK.</p><p> </p><p>We are committing departmental resources to supporting and celebrating towns through delivering a range of effective and targeted policy interventions. These include the Cultural Development Fund, Heritage Action Zones, and the Discover England Fund, as well as continued support to our arms-length bodies, such as Arts Council England and the National Lottery Heritage Fund, many of which do great work to support culture in towns.</p><p> </p><p>We also believe that culture, as well as other sectors supported by DCMS have an important role to play in the development of local regeneration plans for towns that will be supported through the new multi-billion pound Towns Fund. The fund is at the heart of the Government’s commitment to leveling up our left behind places, to improve connectivity, provide vital social and cultural infrastructure, and boost growth.
