Thanks to its extensive global footprint of <del class="ministerial">273</del> <ins class="ministerial">274</ins> posts in 169 countries and territories, and its network of Honorary Consuls, the UK is able to provide professional consular services worldwide. In addition to our network, people who need assistance can call any of our embassies, high commissions or consulates, or the FCO switchboard, 24/7 for advice or help. The UK is open to maintaining a close level of cooperation with the EU, if this is perceived to be of mutual benefit, on crisis preparedness and consular affairs, including the provision of consular assistance to unrepresented EU citizens in third countries on a reciprocal basis. Our High Commissioner in Ghana has made representations to the Government of Ghana, including through a statement made alongside other European Union Heads of Missions in Ghana. We continue to urge the authorities to ensure that there is a full investigation into the matter. As the Foreign Secretary set out on 18 January those responsible must face justice. Our High Commissioner is closely monitoring events following the beating and detention of a Ghanaian Times journalist, Malik Sullemana in 2018. We are in contact with the Ghanaian Times and the Ghanaian Police, and have urged the authorities to conclude their investigation into the matter.</p><p>The UK is committed to the promotion of media freedom and the protection of journalists worldwide. The Foreign Secretary has launched an international campaign to end the climate of impunity and mobilise a consensus behind the protection of journalists. The British Government welcomes the role Cameroon and its neighbours are playing in the campaign against Boko Haram. We call on the Government of Cameroon to take urgent action to address the Anglophone crisis and we hope that President Biya will reach out to all sections of Cameroonian society and work to build confidence and trust. In my statement of 23 October I reiterated that it is crucial for all parties to engage in a peaceful and structured process leading to constitutional reforms, as previously set out by the President, and avoid excessive use of force. Over the coming months, we will hire more communications specialists to provide greater resource for proactive communications and campaigns in Africa.
