star this property answer text <p>The UK government will continue to lead the world in our long-term support for comprehensive sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), and to help women and girls get the information and services they need to give them control over their own lives and bodies.</p><p> </p><p>Following the reintroduction and expansion of the Mexico City Policy in January 2017, we have kept in close contact with partners to ensure the policy does not compromise UK-supported comprehensive SRHR programming. The full implications of the now further expanded Mexico City Policy are not yet clear, but we are closely monitoring developments. DFID will consider the implications with our offices and partners and with civil society and with donors.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>DFID has not made its own assessment of the study by the Norwegian Refugee Council on the mental health of children in Gaza, published on 25 March 2019, but have previously reviewed the UNICEF Overseas Development Institute December 2016 report and use it to feed into our analysis on the situation of people with disabilities. DFID is planning to commission a comprehensive assessment of needs and existing effective interventions which address the long-term needs of people living with disabilities in Gaza.</p> more like this

We continue to engage closely with the World Health Organisation, UN OCHA, and other health and humanitarian based NGOs working in Gaza to ensure we are able to comprehensively monitor health and humanitarian needs there.</p><p> </p><p>To help ensure hospitals in Gaza can continue to provide essential services on a range of health issues, we provided £1.5 million for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) OPTs Appeal in 2018. This funding has helped treat patients in 11 hospitals which are under extreme pressure in Gaza by restocking vital medical supplies including medicines, surgical equipment, and bandages and helping provide physical rehabilitation services for around 4,000 people.</p> more like this

We are aware of reports that hospitals are facing shortages in medical supplies and medicines. Untied aid promotes value for money through ensuring open competition for aid-funded programmes. star this property answer text <p>The UK has not supported reconstruction of sewage works in Gaza but has funded improved water and sanitation through UNICEF; and plans to improve water and wastewater services by funding the World Bank.</p><p> </p><p>In 2018, DFID committed to supporting the World Bank’s Water Security Development Programme (WSDP). The programme is currently in the design phase but will focus on supporting infrastructure for the water network related to the Gaza Central Desalination Programme and provide technical support to the Palestinian Water Authority. The technical assistance will include support to improve water and wastewater services.</p><p> </p><p>To address Gaza’s water and sanitation crisis in 2018, DFID provided £2 million to UNICEF to help reduce the spread of disease by disinfecting water in 280 water wells, 38 desalination plants, and 40 water reservoirs. This support has improved access to water and sanitation services for 2 million people in Gaza.</p><p> </p> more like this
