unstar this property answer text <p>I recognise concerns that have been raised by Noble Lords in relation to Operation Conifer, however it is for locally-elected Police and Crime Commissioners (PCCs) to decide how best to hold their forces to account, and PCCs have the powers to commission an inquiry, should they deem it appropriate. The Government has no plans to launch an inquiry into Operation Conifer.</p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>The Ulster Defence Association and other loyalist groupings remain proscribed under Schedule 2 of the Terrorism Act 2000. <em> </em>The Chief Constable of the Police Service of Northern Ireland recently confirmed that the <em>Assessment of Paramilitary Groups in Northern Ireland</em>, published in October 2015, remains current. You may wish to refer to the assessment in conjunction with the <em>Second Report of the Independent Reporting Commission</em>, published in November 2019, for an up to date assessment of the capacity of the Ulster Defence Association and other loyalist groupings in Northern Ireland. unstar this property answer text <p>In December 2018, Sir Patrick Coghlin Chair of the independent inquiry into the Renewable Heat Incentive Scheme issued the following statement:</p><p> </p><p><em>“I recognise that there will be considerable public interest in this issue. I’m afraid it’s simply not possible to give a date by which the Inquiry report will be published. What we can say is that the report will be published as soon as reasonably possible and that the public can be assured that the Inquiry will work assiduously to ensure that is the case.”</em></p><p> </p><p>As the inquiry was established by the previous Executive and is being supported by the Department of Finance, my Noble Friend should direct further queries about the inquiry to the NI Minister of that Department.</p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>The Foreign Secretary raised Papua with Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi on 31 July at the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting. On 18 June, the former Foreign Secretary raised Papua with Foreign Minister Retno during the UK-Indonesia Partnership Forum, as did the former Minister of State for Asia and the Pacific on 17 June.</p><p>Following the most recent protests, our Ambassador released a press statement on 26 September urging all sides to refrain from violence and welcoming the Indonesian government’s announcement of a full and comprehensive investigation.</p><p>Embassy officials in Jakarta visit Papua and West Papua provinces and regularly press the Indonesian authorities to address legitimate human rights concerns, including upholding the right of all citizens to protest peacefully, and promote the sustainable and equitable development of the provinces. The UK fully respects the territorial integrity of Indonesia, including Papua.</p> more like this

We continue to urge parties to refrain from violence and respect the rule of law.</p><p>The Indonesian Government has the right to enforce security on its own territory. We continue to press the Indonesian authorities to address legitimate human rights concerns, including upholding the right of all citizens to peacefully protest, and ensure the sustainable and equitable development of Papua.</p> more like this
