	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 24/01/2020 answer text <p>The minimum income requirement was implemented in July 2012 as part of a package of reforms to the family Immigration Rules, and the overall assessment is that it strikes a fair balance between an individual’s right to family life, the economic wellbeing of the UK and the community in general.</p><p>The Supreme Court has upheld the lawfulness of the minimum income requirement, which prevents burdens on the taxpayer and promotes integration, declaring that the policy is neither a breach of the right to respect for private and family life under Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights nor discriminatory.</p><p>The Immigration Rules are kept under continuous review including the minimum income requirement and adjusted where necessary in light of feedback, impact and the findings of the courts.</p> answering member constituency Louth and Horncastle answering member printed Victoria Atkins question first answered 24/01/2020 13:28:13 answering member 4399 label Biography information for Victoria Atkins
