star this property answer text
Since November 2014, 95 acres of acacia have been removed from Special Areas of Conservation in the Sovereign Base Areas (SBA). In addition, the SBA Administration has been pursuing other means of acacia removal beyond physical tree cutting, including destroying 5.8km of irrigation piping used to promote growth of acacia on the Cape Pyla Ranges in the Dhekelia SBA.

We plan to remove further acreage of invasive acacia from Special Areas of Conservation in the SBA of Akrotiri and Dhekelia. No decision has yet been made on the specific sites where acacia could be removed and treated with herbicide to prevent re-growth. This will be subject to risk assessment.

Further consideration of options to remove acacia and associated irrigation will take place following this year's migration.
more like this

star this property answer text
The Ministry of Defence (MOD) provides cover for death and injury attributable to service under the Armed Forces Compensation and Pension Schemes. It is a matter for individual Service personnel to decide whether they wish to enhance the wider benefits available to them already by additionally purchasing commercial personal accident and life insurance.

The MOD recognises there have been times when Service personnel have experienced difficulty in obtaining commercial insurance cover which is available to the general public, due to the nature of their employment and the war risks associated with conflict situations. In keeping with the Armed Forces Covenant, the MOD is committed to ensuring that Service personnel are not disadvantaged in their ability to access privately arranged personal accident and life insurance due to their employment and this approach is currently managed through two insurance schemes: PAX and SLI 365. Guidance provided by the MOD on these schemes is updated on a periodic basis, although there have been no specific changes in guidance for Reservists undertaking specialist forces training and selection since 2013.

star this property answer text
The average number of Reserve Service Days, previously known as Manned or Mandatory Training Days, undertaken by individual reservists in the Field Army in the training year April 2016 to March 2017 was 40. All units have unique structures to deliver their specific capability. To get an average number of Reserve Service Days, an infantry structure of a company with a strength of 97 and a battalion with a strength of 439, equates to 3,980 and 17,560 respectively.

Notes:

These figures are single service estimates and have been rounded to 10; numbers ending in "5" have been rounded to the nearest multiple of 20 to prevent systematic bias. This data considers Field Army units only and is inclusive of military training and unit enabling activity. The figures do not include those reservists that sit outside of the Field Army (for example, Home Command). Nor do they differentiate between soldiers conducting military training and those who can potentially consume more Reserve Service Days working within a headquarters.
