Over 50% of the Idlib population have been displaced from their homes, sometimes multiple times, stretching scarce resources beyond their limits and putting further strain on host communities. DFID-funded partners are providing the most vulnerable with food, education, healthcare and cash grants.

With our international partners, the UK continues to use our position in the UN Security Council and the International Syria Support Group to advocate for the protection of civilians, and calls on all parties to allow humanitarian agencies unfettered access to deliver aid to those most in need
more like this

On 15 March 2018 the Minister of State for the Middle East and North Africa, Alistair Burt, announced that the UK has offered to deliver its next round of financial support earlier than originally planned, to help alleviate the pressure that UNRWA is currently facing. Minister Burt has spoken to United States (US) counterparts to discuss how best to ensure the sustainable delivery of UNRWA’s services, and UK officials are also in discussion with US representatives.
more like this

star this property answer text
Yemen has suffered from one of the worst cholera outbreaks ever recorded, at almost 1.1 million suspected cases. Although new cases have declined, cholera is likely to resurge during the upcoming rainy season. Estimates put 74% of districts (representing 22 million people) at risk.

The reason that cholera, a treatable condition which stems from using contaminated water, is so difficult to control is because systems like public health and water and sanitation have broken down.

DFID provided £8 million in the financial year 2017/18 to UNICEF and the International Organization for Migration for prevention, for example providing households with chlorine tablets for drinking water, and treatment for those who are affected. We are now encouraging the UN to have a robust preparedness plan for the upcoming rainy season and have helped to fund the planned cholera vaccination campaign through our core-funding to GAVI.
more like this

This funding is already providing food to 174,000 people, safe water and sanitation for more than 138,000 people and emergency shelter for over 130,000 people. In addition, the new funding will allow emergency nutrition support to reach more than 60,000 children under five, counselling and psychological support to reach over 10,000 women suffering from the trauma of war and over 2,000 survivors of sexual violence, and will provide medical help for over 50,000 pregnant women to give birth safely.
