During this period the Government will continue to negotiate, implement and apply EU legislation.</p><p>Once we have left the EU the process of transposing directives will cease. The Great Repeal Bill will ensure that the whole body of existing EU environmental legislation continues to have effect in UK law.</p><p>As set out in the white paper, Great Repeal Bill will ensure that, wherever practical and appropriate, the same rules and laws apply on the day after we leave the EU as they did before. This means that the Bill will convert directly-applicable EU law into UK law; it will preserve all the laws we have made in the UK to implement our EU obligations, as well as the rights in the EU treaties that can be relied on directly in court by an individual.</p><p>This legislation is the first step in the Prime Minister’s Plan for Britain. This is the case for most British Overseas Territory Citizens. The post-exit immigration rules that apply to British nationals in the EU will be the subject of negotiations, as will the detail of the future relationship between the Overseas Territories and the EU.</p><p>The Government has committed to fully involving the Overseas Territories in discussions on EU exit to ensure their interests are taken into account. UK Ministers and leaders of the Overseas Territories have committed to taking forward future engagement through the creation of the UK – Overseas Territories Joint Ministerial Council (JMC) on European Negotiations. As set out in the 'Legislating for the United Kingdom's withdrawal from the European Union' White Paper there are a variety of reasons why conversion alone may not be sufficient in particular cases. For example, there will be gaps where some areas of converted law will be entirely unable to operate because we are no longer a member of the EU.
