unstar this property answer text <p>“A Better Defence Estate” is a military-led review.</p><p> </p><p>All sites that have been identified for disposal will be disposed of in accordance with the standard procedures mandated by HM Treasury, which ensure best value is achieved for the taxpayer.</p><p> </p><p>This process involves determining if any site is impacted by the Crichel Down Rules. It is too early at this time to say how many of the sites may be affected.</p><p> </p><p>All sites will also be subject to assessment to determine if there are any contamination or safety issues. Any issues will either be rectified prior to sale or made known to potential purchasers, depending on the individual circumstances of the sale in line with Departmental policy.</p><p> </p><p>As part of the disposals process other public bodies will have an opportunity to express an interest in a site.</p><p> </p><p>The Ministry of Defence recognises the historical significance of designated sites that have been identified for disposal and, where this is applicable, appropriate maintenance plans will be explicitly part of the tender process.</p>

unstar this property answer text <p>The Better Defence Estate strategy has been developed using military advice from the Front Line Commands as well as the Chief of Defence People. Its purpose is to optimise infrastructure to support military capability.</p><p>Consolidating the estate enables us to release sites which do not effectively accommodate the capabilities based there and invest in significantly better facilities to support the men and women of our Armed Forces. It will also enable greater certainty for service families, with an estate designed around regional and capability clusters.</p><p>Following the announcement of the strategy, the Ministry of Defence will now begin engagement with the relevant Local Authorities on how to take forward the disposal of each site and where there are potential opportunities to maximise both enhance local economic development as well as value for money for Defence.</p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>The pilot project identified a number of sites that may be suitable for registration to carry out civil marriages and partnerships.</p><p>Officials visited these sites to identify those which would be most likely to meet the requirements for licensing for civil marriages without impacting Ministry of Defence (MOD) operations or Security.</p><p>Officials are in discussion with the Registrar General regarding how best to implement their Guidance on the approval of sites for use for civil marriages and partnerships to MOD sites, after which the shortlisted sites will be taken through the local authority run licencing process which can take up to 12 weeks per site.</p><p>In addition sites in Scotland can also be used for civil marriages and partnerships without registration. Any request to use Scottish sites for civil marriages and partnerships would be dependent on security and ongoing MOD training use.</p><p>If the initial registration of sites through the pilot project is successful, and once MOD has a clear understanding of the process, other sites will be considered for submission as suitable venues.</p>

unstar this property answer text <p>The Department does not own any of the buildings within the estate, and after 20 years the leases and contracts covering many of our buildings end in March 2018. The overall requirement in DWP for processing work is reducing and we do not need the same size estate we currently have.</p><p> </p><p>Our strategic review of estate has concluded that there is no requirement for the space currently occupied in Llanelli Crown Buildings and that the work currently undertaken there can be accommodated elsewhere in the network. We have not, therefore, discussed the potential for sharing use of the space.</p> more like this
