star this property answer text The Government has repeatedly raised concerns about the plight of the Rohingya community in Burma. I last raised this when I met the Burmese Minister of Construction on 29 November. The Minister of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, my noble Friend, the Rt Hon. Baroness Anelay of St Johns DBE also raised our concerns when she visited Burma from 9-12 November. We are particularly concerned for the welfare of the estimated 3,400 children who were suffering from severe acute malnutrition prior to the flare up in violence in Rakhine following the 9 October attacks on the Burmese border posts. We have called on the Government of Burma to resume immediately humanitarian aid and to conduct an independent investigation into allegations of human rights violations. The Investigation Commission has now been established and will report back by 31 January 2017. more like this

star this property answer text I have not raised the status of the two legislators with the Chinese Government. A senior FCO official met the Chinese Ambassador to the UK on 8 November to discuss the importance of the Legislative Council to Hong Kong's high degree of autonomy. The British Chargé d'Affaires in Beijing also discussed these issues with the Chinese Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs on 7 November. When I visited China from 14 – 17 August, I discussed with the Chinese Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs the importance of the maintenance of 'One Country, Two Systems'. The British Government will continue to monitor, and to report to the House on the situation in Hong Kong. more like this

star this property answer text Discussions on transparency and corruption have formed part of our bilateral dialogue with the Republic of Korea. The Kim Young Ran Law, introduced earlier this year in South Korea and aimed at curbing excesses of hospitality and gift-giving, used the UK’s Bribery Act as a reference. This followed collaboration between the UK and the Korean authorities, including Korea’s Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission (ACRC). Future plans include the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Serious Fraud Office and Korea’s Supreme Prosecutor’s Office on enhancing cooperation. Projects aimed at helping businesses and media stakeholders in Korea tackle corruption are also using British anti-corruption standards as guidance. more like this
