star this property answer text <p>The Energy Profit’s Levy investment allowance will be calculated in the same way as the investment allowance for the existing Supplementary Charge. However, unlike the Supplementary Charge, it will be available to companies at the point of investment. This makes it both more immediate and more generous.</p><p> </p><p>Since the Levy is targeted at the extraordinary profits from oil and gas upstream activities, it makes sense that any relief for investment must also be related to oil and gas upstream activities. Such spending can be used to decarbonise oil and gas production, for example, through electrification. Therefore, any capital expenditure on electrification, as long as it relates to specific oil activities within the ringfence, will qualify for the allowance.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Through government funding to local authorities, including the Local Government Finance Settlement, UK-wide growth funding schemes and other grant programmes, the Government is enabling local areas to tackle net zero goals in ways that best suit their needs.</p><p>The Government also funds five Local Net Zero Hubs to support local authorities to develop net zero projects and attract commercial investment. As of January 2023, the Local Net Zero Hubs are working on a pipeline of projects with a projected total capital value of over £4billion.</p><p>Ofgem also supports community energy projects and is now welcoming applications from community interest groups, co-operative societies, and community benefit societies to the Industry Voluntary Redress Scheme.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Renewable technologies now form a significant part of the UK’s energy mix, and the recent Clean Growth Strategy sets out policies to continue the expansion of the low carbon electricity sector. Coal to biomass conversions are a transitional technology in the decarbonisation of electricity, with all support under the renewables obligation and contracts for difference (CfD) schemes ending in 2027. We are improving the route to market for renewable technologies such as offshore wind by making up to £557m available for further CfD auctions, and working with industry to develop an ambitious Sector Deal for offshore wind which could result in 10 gigawatts of new capacity. No decisions have been made on further CfD auctions for the Pot 1 technologies.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Our support for clean energy has produced world leading results.</p><p> </p><p>Continuing investment has ensured that we have the largest installed offshore wind capacity in the world.</p><p> </p><p>The UK’s leadership in financing clean growth is already emerging, with more than 60 green bonds listed on the London Stock Exchange, raising over $20 billion across seven currencies.</p><p> </p><p>Globally the UK is among the largest contributors of climate finance, committing to provide at least £5.8 billion from 2016 to 2020, to help developing countries mitigate and adapt to the impacts of climate change and support cleaner economic growth.</p><p> </p><p>Data recently released by the Office for National Statistics shows continued strong growth for our low carbon businesses - turnover was up 5% in 2016, employee numbers grew more than 3% and exports are up 1.4%. Community energy groups can act as catalysts for raising awareness and promoting behaviour change, both of which are vital if we are to achieve our 2050 goals.</p><p> </p><p>BEIS is funding the Rural Community Energy Fund (RCEF) a £10 million programme, delivered through the 5 Local Energy Hubs in England in the North East (Yorkshire &amp; Humber), the North West, the Midlands, Greater South East, and the South West.</p><p> </p><p>This scheme supports rural communities in England to develop renewable energy projects, explicitly to provide economic and social benefits back to the community.
