	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 13/01/2016 answer text <p><del class="ministerial">The Government and police work nationally, and with international partners, to reduce the threat to the UK from the criminal use of firearms. In 2013/14, firearms were used in a small and diminishing proportion of total police recorded crime, 0.2%. The figure for 2009/10 was 0.3%. Following the firearms surrenders in Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Greater Manchester and the West Midlands in 2013 and 2014, the National Ballistics Intelligence Service (NABIS) co-ordinated firearms surrenders in the majority of the Police Force areas in England and Wales during 2014 and 2015, resulting in the surrender of over 6000 items.</del></p><p><del class="ministerial">As of 7th January 2016; 3,864 firearms and over 13,000 items of ammunition have been recovered following the November 2015 firearms surrender, with 934 weapons being recovered prior to the November surrender. Of those items recovered in the November surrender (discounting ammunition, CS Sprays and Stun Guns), items include:</del></p><p><del class="ministerial">• 516 pistols;</del></p><p><del class="ministerial">• 473 revolvers;</del></p><p><del class="ministerial">• 1,226 shotguns;</del></p><p><del class="ministerial">• 243 rifles;</del></p><p><del class="ministerial">• 873 air weapons</del></p><p><del class="ministerial">This brings the total volume of firearms surrendered in the last eighteen months to 4,798. If ammunition, CS Sprays and Stun Guns are included this comes to over 6000.</del></p><p><del class="ministerial">Following publication of the Law Commission’s report on firearms law published on 16 December we will be reviewing options to strengthen the current legislation to ensure it safeguards against abuse by criminals.</del></p><p><ins class="ministerial"><em>The Government and police work nationally, and with international partners, to reduce the threat to the UK from the criminal use of firearms. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 11/12/2015 answer text <p>Action Fraud is the national reporting centre for fraud and cyber crime, and takes reports on behalf of all police forces in England and Wales. In June, it was extended to cover Northern Ireland. Action Fraud was set up to improve reporting of what has traditionally been an under-reported crime type. Official figures support the decision to centralise reporting: in the year ending June 2015, recorded fraud offences more than trebled from 72,000 before the centralisation of reporting to over 230,000.</p><p>Action Fraud works in conjunction with the National Fraud Intelligence Bureau (NFIB): as of April 2014 both are operated by the City of London Police, the national lead force for fraud, which means one organisation is responsible for the whole process of taking reports and analysing them. The NFIB analyses Action Fraud crime reports and attempts to match them with other crimes and identify viable lines of enquiry so that an intelligence package can be passed to the police force best able to launch an investigation (usually where the suspect is believed to be located).</p><p>Not all crimes recorded by Action Fraud and analysed by the NFIB will have viable investigative leads: fraudsters and cyber criminals may be based overseas or use false details. Nevertheless, in 2014/15, the number of crimes sent to police forces was almost 62,000. This was an increase of over 50% on 2013/14. The City of London Police are working with local forces to share expertise on how to investigate these types of crimes. City of London Police will be introducing a new IT system in May 2016, comprising of a new and much easier to use online reporting tool and a new data analytics platform within the NFIB. All crime reports are assessed against a number of variables, which may alter according to demand. It would be improper to comment on the procedure on which these decisions are made in the public domain.</p><p>Action Fraud was rolled out to all police forces in April 2013; the data below includes crime reports and disseminations in England and Wales only. For the 12 months to 31 March 2015, Action Fraud received 230,399 reports of crime. Of these, 14,509 were cyber dependent crimes, namely, crimes which can only be committed using computers, computer networks or other forms of information communication technology – for example, hacking or malware offences. These crimes fall under the Computer Misuse Act 1990. For this period, the NFIB disseminated a total of 61,682 crimes to Forces and partner agencies to consider investigation. For the period April 2013 – March 2014 Action Fraud received 211,221 crime reports and of these, 21,686 were cyber dependent.
