This is because our learning is delivered through a wide range of methods, including structured classroom based modules, up-skilling from colleagues and some delivered by third party organisations.</p><p> </p><p>All our Work Coaches undertake a learning routeway which includes information to help them deliver to customers with a wide range of additional needs including those with disabilities and hidden conditions such as autism.</p><p> </p><p>We have also recently changed the role of Disability Employment Advisers to allow them to focus on sharing their expertise with all Work Coaches and Jobcentre staff. As part of this we have recruited new Disability Employment Advisers, some of whom will still be undertaking their learning journey.</p><p> </p><p>On 27 March, to coincide with World Autism Awareness Week, we also launched a new Disability Confident Autism and Neuro-diversity Toolkit which we developed in partnership with Autism Alliance UK and the Autism Task Group. All staff complete customer awareness training that covers a wide range of customer circumstances that includes asylum seekers and refugees.</p><p> </p><p>Jobcentre Plus staff supplement national instructions with information on services and support available in their local area. This is accessed via the District Provision Tool which contains a wealth of information on the support available for vulnerable claimants including refugees. This confirmed the findings of an earlier DWP/Home Office review into why a significant number of asylum seeking refugees who are granted leave to remain, do not have benefits in payment at the end of their 28 day period of asylum support. The key finding was that they do not contact DWP early enough to enable their benefit claim to be processed before Home Office support ends.</p><p> </p><p>These internal reviews are informing a DWP/Home Office pilot of an assisted transition from asylum support to benefits. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 21/07/2016 answer text <p>The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) demonstrates a duty of care throughout all its customer services and which it expects its staff to follow through instructions and learning.</p><p>The Department has an established approach to identifying and providing an appropriate level of support to all its customers who are vulnerable, including those with mental health conditions. DWP identifies any “individual who is identified as having complex needs and/or requires additional support to enable them to access DWP benefits and use our services” as being vulnerable. This definition ensures that we have consistency and continuity in the type and level of service which is being offered and that it supports the customer appropriately whatever their needs.</p><p>DWP’s approach for dealing specifically with customers experiencing mental health conditions has been developed in consultation with its Work Psychologists to ensure that staff are able to develop a thorough understanding of the various different mental health conditions which exist, including hidden impairments and how they impact on an individual. DWP recognises any “individual who is identified as having complex needs and/or requires additional support to enable them to access DWP benefits and use our services” as being vulnerable. DWP uses its records to ensure that where individuals are identified as being vulnerable we take all reasonable steps to mitigate risks. The DWP aim is to identify and direct victims of human trafficking at the earliest opportunity to agencies able to support them.</p><p> </p><p>The training for DWP staff is contained within an overarching “Vulnerability” session.
