	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 10/09/2015 answer text <p>The overall number of visits is dependent on a range of factors including the approach of the Army and RAF to engaging young people.</p><p>For the Army in particular, a more focused approach to engagement through the Army in Education programme may also have contributed to this reduction.</p><p>In addition, from 2012 to 2015 the RAF operated a system that sought to connect with pupils mainly through social media and marketing. Prior to this we could not collect disaggregated figures because the information was not recorded in that format. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 03/11/2015 answer text <p>The RAF statistics for the year 2011-12 provided in the answer of 15 April 2013 was collected manually from all Armed Forces Careers Offices by the RAF. The statistics provided to answer Question 4788 were collected from the computer system called ICARAS.</p><p>For the RAF, prior to January 2015, recording data on ICARAS was not mandatory. The difference in figures is because not all historic data has been recorded on ICARAS for the year 2011-12 and, therefore, the previously manually collected data is more accurate.</p><p>For the Army, prior to April 2013 they used the ICARAS system to track outreach activity, including visits to schools. However, the identification of specific types of event was problematic and it was often quicker and easier to ask Recruiting Offices for a summary of their activity. These summaries were based on local records, and were not always fully collated.</p><p>Since April 2013 ICARAS has been the main tool to track events. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 07/01/2016 answer text <br /><p>The Armed Forces meet the requirement of Raising the Participation Age, as defined in the Education and Skills Act 2008.</p><p>In the Naval Service, all new recruits, whether Royal Navy or Royal Marines and irrespective of age, undertake a Level 2 accredited apprenticeship. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 19/04/2017 answer text <p>All Armed Forces recruits under the age of 18 are enrolled on an apprenticeship. They also receive education in literacy and numeracy, should they need it. The Armed Forces remain the UK's largest apprenticeship provider, equipping young people with valuable and transferable skills for life. OFSTED regularly inspects our care of newly joined young recruits, and we are very proud of the standards we achieve. All apprenticeships require a minimum of 280 Guided Learning Hours (GLHs) within a 12-month period.</p><p>Over 95% of all recruits, no matter what their age or prior qualifications, enrol in an Apprenticeship Programme each year. Apprenticeships ensure that Service personnel will gain a Level 2 qualification in literacy and numeracy, which is the equivalent to GCSE (Grade A-C).</p><p>Since September 2012, the Department has adopted Functional Skills qualifications (FS (English) and FS (mathematics)) as the accredited measures of literacy and numeracy skills for all Service personnel accessing in-Service literacy and numeracy provision. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 14/12/2015 answer text <p>The Ministry of Defence (MOD) Children's Education Advisory Service (CEAS) provides information, advice and support to Service parents on all aspects of the education of their children. CEAS advice is free and impartial, and covers a range of issues including mainstream state schools and special state maintained schools, state boarding schools, the MOD's Queen Victoria School Dunblane, and independent schools both day and boarding. CEAS also advise on MOD educational allowances, and the strict eligibility criteria that must be met.</p><p>CEAS offer tailored support for Service parents who experience difficulty in obtaining the state school of their choice and where necessary support them through the appeal process. As well as help-lines and an email enquiry service, CEAS provide four dedicated peripatetic Parent Support Officers who are educational professionals and cover all locations within the United Kingdom.</p><p>The guidance provided by the MOD was covered in some detail during a House of Commons Defence Committee Inquiry in 2013, and more detail is available in the Fourth Report of Session 2013-14: The Armed Forces Covenant in Action?
