There are currently 691 designated teaching schools working with over 500 school partnerships (‘alliances’) across England. UCAS, who own this data, does release figures for applications to School Direct but not applicants, and an applicant can have up to three applications. Providers of ITT must ensure that their courses allow trainees to demonstrate the Teachers’ Standards in full; this includes ensuring that trainees are equipped to “adapt teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of all pupils”. The standards require trainees to demonstrate that they “have a clear understanding of the needs of all pupils, including those with special educational needs”. It is for individual providers to decide how best to ensure that their programmes meet the requirements of the standards.</p><p> </p><p>Following a review of ITT quality by Sir Andrew Carter, the Secretary of State appointed a leading head teacher, Stephen Munday CBE, to lead an independent expert group tasked with developing a framework of core initial teacher training content. This will provide further guidance for ITT providers and trainees on how the Teachers’ Standards should be applied to the initial training phase. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 11/02/2016 answer text <p>For all new School Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) providers there is a rigorous accreditation process which includes a financial and governance review of the lead school encompassing financial accounts and forecasts and governance arrangements. If successful, the new SCITT is awarded accreditation by the Secretary of State. In Academic Year 2015/16 there were 41 new SCITT providers who commenced operations.</p><p>As part of the December annual school return process all Local Authority SCITT providers are required to produce an audited income/expenditure statement and balance sheet.</p><p>For Academy based SCITT providers, the Education Funding Agency obtain financial health information from the audited academy trust, financial statements by 31 December and their budget returns by 31 July each year. The financial statements include independent audit opinions and regularity reports, which provide assurance that the trust has used funds appropriately and report any instances of financial concerns. The financial information is assessed and where appropriate instances of trusts at potential risk are asked to prepare and submit a recovery plan.</p><p>Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) receiving PGCE bursary funding are regulated through HEFCE and therefore the responsibility of the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 13/06/2016 answer text <p>All initial teacher training (ITT) courses must ensure that trainee teachers can meet the Teachers’ Standards. They must have a clear understanding of the needs of all pupils, including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). Teachers must be able to adapt teaching to the needs of all pupils, including pupils with autism.</p><p> </p><p>Following the publication of the independent review of ITT by Sir Andrew Carter in 2015, the Government commissioned an expert group, chaired by Stephen Munday CBE, to develop a framework of core ITT content. The Carter Review had found variability in the quality of course content, identifying SEND as one area for improvement.</p><p> </p><p>Stephen Munday’s group, which includes SEND experts, have considered how the new framework of core content for ITT will have a focus on SEND, including conditions such as autism. The Secretary of State for Education has confirmed that autism training will form part of the new core content for ITT.
