star this property answer text DCMS is investing £1.5 million in the Ferens Gallery to help them host the Turner Prize; plus £0.5 million to help create a lasting cultural legacy for Hull. The Gallery will receive a further £0.5m from ACE for refurbishment. My department is also providing £3.1 million to three ACE-funded organisations -Artlink, Freedom Festival and Hull Truck Theatre - who will play a key role in the 2017 events. Hull Museums, now among ACE's Major Partner Museums, have been awarded £2.5m between now and 2018; and an additional £3 million from ACE will help raise the profile of culture in the city and promote new partnerships throughout 2017. This amounts to over £11 million and does not include additional investment that might come from other bodies such as the BBC.
more like this

star this property answer text

In the UK, we have been successfully regulating for gas and oil drilling for over 50 years and have tough regulations in place to prevent water contamination.

All hydraulic fracturing operations will require a groundwater activity permit. The Environment Agency will not grant a permit where the risks to groundwater are unacceptable. They have powers to impose conditions to ensure proper protection or to prohibit activities which they consider to pose unacceptable risks.

The Infrastructure Act 2015 required the Government to specify protected groundwater source areas within which hydraulic fracturing cannot take place, which we did in draft regulations debated in the House on 27 October. They define these areas as being equivalent to Source Protection Zones 1, which applies to those areas close to drinking water sources where there is the greatest risk associated with groundwater contamination. This will reinforce the regulatory approach, as it is consistent with the approach taken by the Environment Agency and Natural Resources Wales to control the risks from other groundwater activities.

star this property answer text

Civil legal aid is available to help victims of human trafficking in relation to applications for leave to enter or remain in the UK, and also for claims for damages or under employment law brought by victims of human trafficking arising in connection with their exploitation. These services are set out in paragraph 32 of Schedule 1 to the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Act 2012. Victims of human trafficking are also able to apply for any other civil legal aid service for which they are eligible.

The Legal Aid Agency does not routinely collect information on the circumstances of applicants for legal aid, except where this is directly relevant to the application. This includes whether or not applicants are victims of human trafficking, which was not relevant to any legal aid applications before the introduction of LASPO or for services other than those described under paragraph 32 of Schedule 1 to LASPO since. Data is being collected on services provided under paragraph 32, but due to the length of time it takes for cases to conclude, we do not have a clear picture of funding since implementation of LASPO. As a result, it is not possible accurately to estimate the total cost of enabling victims of human trafficking to access legal aid for the period requested.
