As of March 2014 there were 137 accredited SDVCs. However, the closure of SDVCs in some areas does not necessarily mean that provision in that area has ceased, as many of the SDVC systems cover a number of courthouses. Closure of an SDVC in one courthouse would simply mean that the case would be heard in another accredited courthouse within the Local Justice Area.

HMCTS remains committed to a partnership approach to supporting domestic violence victims going through the Criminal Justice Process.
more like this

Access to legal aid for protective injunctions to prevent domestic violence remains identical to that prior to the legal aid reforms. These matters continue to be funded without the need for evidence. In private family law cases (such as child or financial arrangements) legal aid continues to be available where there is evidence of domestic violence or child abuse - the list of acceptable evidence is wide and comprehensive.

In a recent judgment, the High Court found that the domestic violence evidential requirements are lawful and reflect the intention of Parliament in providing legal aid for those victims of domestic violence who require assistance because they will be intimidated or materially disadvantaged by having to face their abuser in court.
more like this

Contractors are sourced via Pan Government contractual arrangements and rates are set by the contract in line with contractors experience and the job role required. Contractors are not able to charge more for their services than the initial price agreed at time of appointment. Pan Government arrangements date back to 1/4/11 and no information prior to this date is available.

(b) Since May 2010 there have been around 70 contracts awarded by The Ministry of Justice to provide the provision of consultancy.

To establish whether a consultancy company have charged more than the initial price agreed for their services we would need to interrogate both the files and companies to obtain the information required and then review and collate that information. By doing so we would incur disproportionate costs in answering this question.

Temporary staff and consultants are only used to fill business critical posts and provide essential services where they can provide a fast, flexible and efficient way to obtain necessary skills that are not currently available in house.
