star this property answer text <p>We have to recognise that the UK is not immune to problems elsewhere in the world. The UK has one of the most open economies in the world through trade and financial channels. In particular, growth in the euro area – our largest trading partner – is weak and we have to expect that to dampen our own recovery.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>Since entering office, this Government has worked consistently towards a rebalancing of the UK economy and growing our trade with all parts of the world, including key emerging markets. Since 2010, for example, UKTI has increased the number of its overseas-based staff working outside the EU from 875 to 1060, reflecting the growing priority being given to non-EU markets; and, excluding aircraft, nearly all of the exports supported by UK Export Finance in recent years have been to markets outside the EU. Ministers continue to take an active role, including through the Chancellor-led annual Economic and Financial Dialogues with India and China, the most recent of which secured £2.4 billion in bilateral investment deals.</p><p> </p>

star this property answer text <p>On 24 April 2013, the independent <em>Review of the Regulation of Cosmetic Interventions</em>, chaired by Sir Bruce Keogh, was published. A copy has already been placed in the Library.</p><p> </p><p>The <em>Government Response to the Review of the Regulation of Cosmetic Interventions</em>, was published on 13 February. A copy of the response has already been placed in the Library. We fully accept the principles of the Keogh review and the overwhelming majority of the recommendations.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>The Government has undertaken to strengthen standards through better training and robust qualifications, and explore how far supervision from regulated professionals might support self-regulation of the sector.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>The Royal College of Surgeons has set up an inter-specialty committee to ensure standards for cosmetic surgery and will work with the General Medical Council on a code of ethical conduct. Health Education England (HEE) is leading on a review of training and qualifications for providers of non-surgical cosmetic interventions, including lasers. On 11 September, HEE published a phase 1 report <em>Review of qualifications required for delivery of non-surgical cosmetic </em><em>interventions</em>. A copy of the report is attached.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>The Care Quality Commission has developed a new inspection methodology to cover independent health providers, reflecting the protocols used for National Health Service hospitals. The inspections will be conducted with relevant specialists within the inspection teams, including those with experience in cosmetic interventions.</p><p> </p><p><strong> </strong></p><p> </p><p>The Department is also taking steps to meet relevant stakeholders to discuss cosmetic procedures and the necessity and form of any further regulation to protect the public. There are no current plans to introduce a statutory register of providers of cosmetic laser treatments.</p><p> </p>

star this property answer text <p>It is the responsibility of each local authority to balance the supply and demand for primary and secondary school places in their area and secure a place for every child of statutory age who wants one.</p><p> </p><p>The Department for Education collects information from local authorities on the number of school places in state-funded primary and secondary schools (except special schools) and local authorities’ own pupil forecasts, as part of the annual School Capacity Collection. The most recent data available relates to the position at May 2013 and is published online at:</p><p><a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/school-capacity-academic-year-2012-to-2013" target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/school-capacity-academic-year-2012-to-2013</a></p><p> </p><p>The published data shows that Barnet Local Authority is anticipating an increase in the number of secondary pupils over the next five years. Updated pupil forecast data is currently being collected from local authorities and will be published in due course.</p><p> </p><p>We continue to provide capital funding to local authorities to assist in providing additional school places, and we monitor the situation regularly to ensure there are sufficient places to meet local need. Barnet has been allocated a total of £68.7m for the period 2011-2015 and a further £14.8m for 2015-17 to help create the additional school places that will be needed by September 2017.</p><p> </p>
