Apprentices can take around 18 months to complete their training and have the option to go on to pursue further higher level apprenticeship qualifications.</p><p> </p><p>Of the apprentices starting in the period since April 2015, 52% are still currently apprentices, 26% have been provided permanent roles within HMT and 22% have left the organisation. Of those leaving the organisation, some of these will not have completed their apprenticeship and some of these will have gone on to other roles within the Civil Service. It is a signal to the food and drink industry that the Government is willing to take action to help cut sugar intakes.</p><p> </p><p>Public health experts have widely identified sugar-sweetened soft drinks as a specific, major factor in childhood obesity.
