star this property answer text <p>The Government is aware the sector's transition to electric arc furnaces will mean scrap steel becomes an increasingly vital material source for UK steelmaking. The UK has an abundance of ferrous scrap and a strong scrap sector<del class="ministerial">.</del> <ins class="ministerial">- there were c.11 million tonnes of scrap arising in 2021, with 2.6 million tonnes (25%) consumed domestically (International Steel Statistics Bureau via UK Steel) and 8.6 million tonnes (75%) exported (HMRC Overseas Trade Data).</ins>Steel producers are increasing their engagement with scrap metal dealers to secure future supply. Government officials continue to closely monitor the development of the scrap market and the Government will consider its options if evidence emerges that the market is failing to respond effectively.</p> more like this

The Department for Business and Trade continues to deliver over 40 support schemes that help businesses start, grow and export. At the Autumn Statement, my Rt Hon Friend the Chancellor announced further support for SMEs over the next five years. This support can be accessed through local Growth Hubs, Help to Grow and a dedicated Business Support Helpline. In addition, The British Business Bank improves access to finance to help businesses invest and grow. star this property answer text <p>The Department for Business and Trade has no plans to commission a review into the economic, and other benefits or disbenefits of Brexit. However, to mark the fourth anniversary of Brexit, on 31<sup>st</sup> January this year, the Department for Business and Trade published an overview of Brexit successes: <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/brexit-4th-anniversary-update" target="_blank">Brexit 4th Anniversary</a></p><p>Since the referendum the UK has grown faster than Germany, Italy, and Japan. Latest figures show that UK exports are £8<ins class="ministerial">62</ins><del class="ministerial">55</del>bn in current prices and <ins class="ministerial">2</ins><del class="ministerial">1</del>% above pre-COVID (2018) levels when adjusting for inflation. The lnternational Monetary Fund (lMF) predicts that between 2024-202<ins class="ministerial">9</ins><del class="ministerial">8</del> the UK will see the third fastest growth in the G7.</p><p>The Department has secured free trade deals with 73 countries plus the EU, partners that accounted for £1.1 trillion UK trade in 2022 and simplified import tariffs to lower costs for businesses and households.</p>

I will correspond directly with my noble Friend.</del></p><p><ins class="ministerial">After exit day, the Government is setting up a new UK regulatory regime. We recognise the valuable contribution UK Notified Bodies make to the economy, which is why notified bodies operating under the new regulatory regime will automatically become UK approved bodies. UK approved bodies will only be able to provide conformity assessment for the UK market and for countries with which we have signed a relevant mutual recognition agreement. We meet regularly with the sector to discuss the impact of Brexit and how they can prepare.</ins></p><p><ins class="ministerial">To help ensure the flow of goods into the UK, CE marked goods can be placed on the UK market for a time-limited period after exit day if we leave the EU without a withdrawal agreement. The results of conformity assessment carried out by EU notified bodies will be valid in the UK during this time-limited period. This will help UK manufacturers who sell to both the EU and UK markets.</ins></p><p> </p>

The Government has various campaigns and sources of support available to encourage people make changes in their lifestyle.</ins></p><p><ins class="ministerial">For example, the simple energy advice service provides advice on the best ways to make your home more energy efficient, and discounts on the purchase of low emission vehicles through the Plug-in Grant. There is also the Renewable Heat Incentive scheme, under which households can receive cash payments for installing an eligible renewable heating technology, and the Smart Energy Guarantee, where households receive payment for generating their own electricity.</ins></p> more like this
