These proposals include a power to regulate technical standards of infrastructure to ensure easy compatability with vehicles, and a power to require clear and consistent pricing information. A public consultation closed on 24 November.</p><p> </p><p>At the Autumn Statement, the Chancellor announced additional funding of £270m for ultra low emission vehicles – with £80m for charging infrastructure - in addition to existing funding of more than £600m over thisParliament. Grant funding for chargepoints will continue to require that all public chargepoints have standards that enable them to work with all types of electric vehicle. Our proposal is that HS2 should serve Sheffield city centre through a spur off the proposed HS2 line, enabling HS2 trains to run into Sheffield along the existing rail network. Keeping traffic moving reduces stop-start decelerations and accelerations, which in itself has air quality benefits.</p><p> </p><p>Highways England will announce any measures to improve air quality on the M1 between junctions 32-35a when the Smart Motorway scheme opens, which is expected to be in March 2017.</p><p> </p><p>Highways England has undertaken environmental assessments of the scheme during the design and construction.
