For example, Cold Weather Payments provide £25 for each 7 day period of very cold weather to eligible households. The cost of this scheme is not only dependent on who is eligible but also on the number of consecutive days of very cold weather in a given winter.</p><p> </p><p>Other types of assistance are set at a given level of annual support, irrespective of the number of eligible consumers. For example, Affordable Warmth is estimated to deliver energy efficiency and heating measures worth around £350 million. Whilst a consumer needs to be claiming certain types of benefits to be eligible for the scheme, support is capped at a certain target level and therefore extending the scheme's eligibility criteria would not necessarily affect the cost of the scheme.</p><p> </p><p>These examples highlight that the cost of assistance is dependent on a number of factors beyond simply whether a consumer is eligible for support. We estimate 8 million people will be receiving Universal Credit once it has been fully rolled out. Friend the Secretary of State on 11 March 2014 was based on evidence drawn from the European Commission Staff Working Document ‘Energy prices and costs in Europe' and the International Energy Agency report, ‘World Energy Outlook 2013'.</p><p> </p><p>‘Energy prices and costs in Europe' indicates that increases in network costs, taxes, and levies have contributed to rises in EU energy prices. However, the report also identifies that for 22 of the 27 Member States surveyed, support for renewable electricity generation accounts for less than 10% of the household electricity price. The bore is sealed with concrete plugs, while the well head it cut off below ground level and a steel cap welded to the top. The abandonment operations are subject to scrutiny by the HSE and the independent well examiner, and must comply with relevant industry standards. The site will then be restored to the appropriate standard prescribed by planning conditions.</p><p> </p><p>Wells are not monitored after the completion of the abandonment and site restoration operations. These strategies are aligned with UK Government policy and their implementation is expected to see cessation of reprocessing in Magnox and THORP facilities during this decade.</p><p> </p><p>With respect to Magnox fuel, the intent is to reprocess all of it. Only a finite amount of Magnox fuel remains, which limits the amount of further separated plutonium that could be produced from reprocessing. Reprocessing is the only approved process for managing this metal fuel.</p><p> </p><p>With respect to Oxide Fuel management, an NDA paper sets out the strategy which is to complete the reprocessing contracts in THORP, as far as is reasonably practicable, and place the remaining fuel and any future arisings into interim storage pending disposal. As a result of the review, Ofgem is currently consulting on proposals to improve end of contract arrangements. The proposals do not include a ban on automatic rollovers because Ofgem considers that such a ban could reduce competition from independent suppliers, which gives small businesses a greater choice to choose a deal that suits their business needs. The focus is on improving protections for non-domestic consumers by improving the clarity of information provided by energy supply companies.
