Analysis of its use will be based on at least one year’s worth of data and published in line with the same approach we take for other statistical releases such as deaths of offenders in the community.</p><p> </p><p>The Prisons and Probation Ombudsman (PPO) carries out independent investigations into complaints and deaths in custody. This includes the Landscape Recovery Scheme, The Farming in Protected Landscapes Programme, and Natural England’s Species Recovery Programme Capital Grant Scheme.</p><p> </p><p>Each individual scheme has its own monitoring and evaluation framework to evaluate the impact of the projects, and this will include evaluation of the value for money delivered. For example, the Species Recovery Programme is currently commissioning an evaluation for the current Spending Review period which will include evaluating whether the Programme is providing value for money.</p><p> </p><p>Defra is also currently developing an overarching monitoring and evaluation framework to strengthen its understanding of progress towards meeting its statutory biodiversity targets, including its target to halt the decline in species abundance by 2030. This team’s mission is to help departments harness the potential of AI to improve lives and the delivery of public services.</p><p>The early work of the Government’s AI incubator has already proven that it is possible to make effective AI tools for use in the UK Government, and that building these in-house represents strong value for money. As this is an incubator, there are projects at varying stages of development.</p><p>I can share that details about some of their pilot projects can be found on their website at https://ai.gov.uk, and include</p><ul><li><p>A consultation response tool that can read, summarise and triage responses to consultations. As the Government initiates more than 700 consultations every year, this tool can free up time for us to undertake more engagement with the public on a broader range of issues.</p></li><li><p>Caddy, an AI powered co-pilot for customer service functions everywhere, which is currently in trial in Manchester. Built in collaboration with Citizens Advice, it seamlessly integrates into existing systems and provides expert advice to advisors and call handlers. This is underpinned by £240 million of retargeted funding to improve digital access routes, and support practices to implement new technology. Digital systems will give patients, including the hearing-impaired, the choice to use an online form on the practice’s website to seek help, instead of having to phone for an appointment, or visit in person. My Rt hon.
