In the course of both, I drew a comparison between the Chilcot Inquiry and the Franks Inquiry, simply to note the information available to the Chairmen of those Inquiries, the significant difference in their scope, including the giving of evidence in public. Both are important Inquiries for the public record, establishing events and learning any lessons. We set out government priorities for adult skills provision annually in the Skills Funding Statement<sup><sup>[1]</sup></sup>, with the Department for Education setting out its priorities in a letter to the Sector<sup><sup>[2]</sup></sup>.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>As independent autonomous organisations it is for college governing bodies to ensure value for money by designing an appropriate local offer that employers and learners value and are prepared to invest in.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>In the last Spending Review, the Government looked to protect overall levels of adult Further education (FE) funding. The funding for adult Teaching and Learning in 2014-15 is broadly the same as 2012-13. Over this parliament the Government has undertaken a radical reform programme enabling FE colleges to use their freedoms and flexibilities to provide the high quality skills their learners, local economy and businesses need. The Code is clear that the criteria they use to decide the allocation of school places must be ‘fair, clear and objective'.</p><p> </p><p>Anyone who considers that these schools' admission arrangements are unlawful or do not comply with the Code can object to the Schools Adjudicator. Grammar schools and the highest performing non-selective schools currently have some of the lowest representations of children eligible for free school meals in England. Under the Apprenticeships, Skills, Children and Learning Act 2009 (ASCL), apprentices are employed under an Apprenticeship Agreement, this ensures they are protected under the Employment Rights Act 1996. Apprentices' pay is covered under the National Minimum Wage regulations and HMRC is responsible for ensuring compliance with these regulations. HMRC provides comprehensive advice and guidance for employees through the Pay and Work Rights Helpline. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 14/07/2014 answer text <p>The Department for Education does not collect data on numbers of children educated at home.</p><p> </p><p>The Department's published guidance for local authorities on elective home education makes it clear that, although the primary responsibility for a child's education rests with the parents, local authorities also have responsibilities in relation to home education. These include identifying children not receiving a suitable education as defined in section 7 of the Education Act 1996. The guidance makes clear that although local authorities have power to require parents to provide information about the education which home educated children are receiving, this is a process best conducted informally and should not amount to routine monitoring. According to The Association of Inland Navigation Authorities (AINA), in 2011 there were 873.8 million visits to waterways around Britain, 23.4 million of which were to visit a specific attraction. There were 293.2 million visits for leisure walking and 234.5 million visits for dog walking, making walking by far the most popular activity participated in.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>The majority of Britain's waterways are managed by the Canal and River Trust (CRT) which is funded by Defra. One of the key objectives on which this funding depends is ensuring public access, including for recreation and tourism. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 07/07/2014 answer text <p>The DCMS-run Memorial Grant Scheme can be used by charities and faith groups to reclaim the VAT paid on repairs and maintenance to war memorials.</p><p>War Memorials Trust website offers a wealth of information on available grants and advice for communities planning to repair and conserve their war memorials.</p><p>The Government has just announced that it will give the War Memorials Trust up to £3 million over the First World War centenary period to boost the funds available to local communities for the repair and conservation of war memorials.
