The government has reached agreement with the EU on an extension until October 31<sup>st</sup> at the latest, with the option to leave earlier as soon as a deal is ratified. However, “No Deal” remains the legal default at the end of the extension period if a deal cannot be reached. As a responsible government we have been preparing for this possibility for almost three years to minimise any disruption in the event of no deal. Friend, the Secretary of State for Education, launched the attached Education Technology Strategy, ‘Realising the potential of technology in education’. This was launched to support the education sector in England to use and embed technology effectively, and to develop a vibrant EdTech business sector in the UK.</p><p>Research informing the Strategy highlighted that technology has the potential to reduce teacher workload, create savings, and improve pupil and student outcomes. However, certain conditions need to be in place to maximise benefit; for example, good connectivity and infrastructure, teacher confidence in using technology, strong and supportive leadership, and awareness that technology supplements rather than replaces good teaching.</p><p>To further understand the impact technology can have on the education sector, the department is developing a testbed programme which will help build the evidence base on the use of technology within schools and colleges. This inquiry has brought to light behaviour which is unacceptable, and it is incumbent on the House of Lords to take swift action. It is important that the House now carefully considers the concerns raised in this important report, and responds to its recommendations.</p><p>It is primarily for Parliament, rather than Government, to consider how best to respond to Naomi Ellenbogen QC’s recommendations. The House of Lords Commission met on Wednesday 17 July in order to plan its response to the recommendations. Every member of the Commission committed to complete the Valuing Everyone training course, and the leaders of the political groupings committed their front bench to do the same. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 22/07/2019 answer text <p>Front line police officers in England and Wales</p><p>Each Chief Constable has a duty to manage and support their workforce effectively, ensuring the welfare of all officers and staff. It is therefore for Chief Constables to determine the appropriate wellbeing and occupational health provision within their police forces, including access to counselling.</p><p>The Government takes the issue of police welfare very seriously and has invested in programmes which offer help directly to officers and staff. In July 2017 the Home Office awarded £7.5 million from the Police Transformation Fund to the College of Policing over three years to pilot and, if these pilots were successful, roll out a dedicated national service to help provide enhanced welfare support to serving police officers and staff.</p><p>Following two years of development and piloting, the National Police Wellbeing Service (NPWS) was launched in April 2019. These are delivering transformational opportunities for officers including mobile communications, biometrics and programmes to improve contact with the public. International trade is beneficial to economic growth and is important to achieving long term prosperity and welfare. The Government has a range of policies, in particular the Industrial Strategy, to enable UK firms to compete in global markets.</p><p> </p><p>The Export Strategy, launched in August 2018, sets out how the Government will enable UK businesses to take advantage of international demand for UK goods and services. We received over 300 detailed responses and will set out next steps in due course.</p><p>The Government has also launched the Race at Work Charter which commits signatories to effective practices that support fairness at work. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 18/07/2019 answer text <p>In alignment with the Global Goal for education (SDG4), DFID is helping tackle the learning crisis: millions of children unable to read and do maths despite years at school. DFID works to strengthen the quality of education and the effectiveness of education systems so that all children have access and opportunity to learn.</p><p> </p><p>UNESCO is the UN’s specialized agency for education and UN lead on SDG4. DFID works with UNESCO towards our shared goal of ensuring quality education for all. DFID provides a voluntary contribution of £7.8m to support the UNESCO Institute of Statistics (UIS) and the UNESCO published Global Education Monitoring Report (GEM Report). The UIS provides comparable, publicly available data on learning outcomes. The GEM Report is an independent, policy focused monitoring report, it is a key tool for pushing progress towards the Global Goals.</p><p> </p><p>Our support to the UIS and the GEM Report is being used to create vital data, evidence and tools to assess whether children are learning, who is being left behind and whether SDG4 is being achieved.
