answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 09/07/2019 answer text <p>Inheritance tax makes an important contribution to the health of public finances and the Government has no plans to abolish it.</p><p> </p><p>The rate of inheritance tax is normally 40% on the value of an estate above a nil rate band of £325,000. Any unused nil rate band may be transferred to a surviving spouse or civil partner, increasing their combined threshold to up to £650,000.</p><p> </p><p>However, the Government recognises that individuals work hard to build up assets with the aim of passing these on to their families. Rising house prices have contributed to more families facing an inheritance tax bill. The Government is addressing this through the phased introduction of the additional £175,000 residence nil rate band. Any unused residence nil rate band may also be transferred to a surviving spouse or civil partner.</p><p> </p><p>Taken together, the combination of the nil rate bands means an individual could pass on up to £500,000 in 2020-21 and the estate of the remaining spouse or civil partner could pass on up to £1 million under certain circumstances in 2020-21. Around 96% of estates are forecast to be able to pass on all their assets without paying any inheritance tax as a result.</p><p> </p><p>In January 2018, the Chancellor of the Exchequer commissioned the Office of Tax Simplification to review the tax. The first report was published in November 2018 and the second report in July 2019. However, as a responsible Government, we continue to plan and prepare for all eventualities, including a potential ‘no deal’ exit.</p><p>The Government is committed to the safe and effective regulation of medicines and medical devices in the United Kingdom. We will continue to strengthen safety while ensuring National Health Service patients and the public have fast access to new, innovative medicines.</p><p>The Government is providing short-term regulatory flexibility, in order to ensure that the UK can still import medicines from the European Economic Area (EEA), when the UK leaves the EU. We are looking at this carefully ahead of the next Spending Review and are considering how effective our funding and regulatory structures are in supporting providers to deliver excellent provision for young people and adults. We have been working with the FE sector to make sure that the system can support sustainable, high quality education and effective recruitment and retention of teachers and leaders.</p><p>We welcome the publication of the Independent Panel Report: Post-18 Review of Education and Funding, attached, and will continue to work with stakeholders to deliver a post-18 system that is joined-up and supported by a funding system that works for students and taxpayers. The government will consider the panel’s recommendations carefully and will conclude the review at the Spending Review. We intend to establish in law a new duty of care on companies towards their users, overseen by an independent regulator. This regulator will set clear safety standards, backed up by mandatory reporting requirements and effective enforcement powers. This will make companies more responsible for their users’ safety online, especially children and other vulnerable groups.</p><p> </p><p>In his statement to Parliament on 20 June 2019, the Secretary of State committed to producing a draft code of practice on child online safety to set clear standards for companies to keep children safe online, ahead of the new regulatory framework. Since the publication of the 2016 plan, half of all drinks in scope of the soft drinks industry levy are being reformulated, some products in the sugar production programme are exceeding their first year target, and significant investments are being made in schools to promote physical activity and healthy eating.</p><p>Consultations have been conducted on a number of policy areas from Chapter 2 and our responses to those will be set out later this year. This assessment remains valid.</p><p>The UK and the EU share a strong commercial interest in maintaining the competitiveness of our automotive industries, which rely on highly integrated and sophisticated just in time supply chains. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 01/07/2019 answer text <p>The setting of prices is a commercial decision for the companies concerned, provided they comply with general consumer law, which requires that consumers are treated fairly, are not misled and are able to make properly informed choices, between products and between businesses.</p><p> </p><p>We have a robust legal framework that provides strong protections for consumers. My rt. hon. Friend the Secretary of State set out in his recent letter to the Competition and Markets Authority, that we want to see greater enforcement against subscription traps and that ultimately roll-over contracts should be as easy to exit as they are to enter. Last year overall trade grew by 14% to £20.5bn in comparison to 2017.</p><p> </p><p>The UK-India Joint Economic and Trade Committee (JETCO) allows for Ministerial discussion on our trade interests with the Indian Government. In 2016, both sides agreed to set up a Joint Working Group on Trade reporting to the JETCO with a specific aim of addressing non-tariff trade barriers. Excellent progress is being made in unlocking barriers in specific sectors.
