On 28 February 2014 the Secretary of State published his ambition that everyone diagnosed with dementia should receive high quality post-diagnosis support, including seamless care, with health and social care professionals working together to provide the best care and support.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>The Better Care Fund is the biggest ever financial incentive for the integration of health and social care. Central Government requires at least £3.8 billion of health and social care budgets to be pooled via the Better Care Fund, with local areas choosing to add another £1.5 billion to pooled budgets across the country. From April 2015, councils and the National Health Service will be able to use the Better Care Fund to work with each other and the voluntary sector. Local areas can use some of this to improve outcomes for people with dementia, such as for example providing access to dementia advisors, reminiscence services and counselling. It seeks to deliver benefits such as more effective station management, better planning of track maintenance, aligned objectives and operational efficiencies</p><p> </p><p>The Alliance sees South West Trains and Network Rail share risks and opportunities within agreed parameters. To date, the Alliance has focused on improving the underlying condition of the infrastructure in order to secure operational efficiencies in the future. That approach has not yet generated savings for the Alliance, or therefore Government. Repayments of the debt were made between 1923 and 1931. In 1931, President Hoover of the United States proposed a one year moratorium on all war debts, which allowed extensive international discussions on the general problems of debt repayment to be held. However, no satisfactory agreement was reached. In the absence of such an agreement, no payments have been made to, or received from, other nations since 1934. The term “intern” is not defined in any legislation: entitlement to the minimum wage depends on whether or not an individual is a worker for minimum wage purposes.</p><p> </p><p>The National Minimum Wage applies to all workers unless a specific exemption applies. If an intern is a worker they will be entitled to the minimum wage. An applicable exemption would be students in further or higher education performing work-experience for a period not exceeding 12 months which is part of their studies. It can be legitimate for employers to offer unpaid or ‘expenses-only’ opportunities in some circumstances – in particular where the individual is acting as a volunteer.</p><p> </p><p>Given this dependency on employment status, it is vital that employers and workers understand how this is determined. This is why last month, the Business Secretary announced a review of employment status, looking at how the system could be clarified, providing transparency for both individuals and employers.
