The legal framework in the UK requires that animals are only ever used in scientific procedures where there are no alternatives, where the number of animals used is the minimum needed to achieve the scientific benefit, and where the potential harm to animals is limited to that needed to achieve the scientific benefit.</p><p>The Government continues to actively support and fund alternatives to the use of animals. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 21/06/2022 answer text <p>This Government takes the welfare of all animals seriously and the Government has been made aware that animals including Asian elephants, that are part of tourist attractions, can be subjected to cruel and brutal training practices to ensure their compliance.</p><p> </p><p>As set out in our Action Plan for Animal Welfare, we are committed to promoting high animal welfare standards, both at home and abroad.
