answer text <p><ins class="ministerial">The National Space Strategy, published in 2021, set out how the Satellite Applications Catapult would support commercialisation and translation of space technologies in the UK by providing access to world-leading facilities, skills, and equipment.</ins></p><p>In the Autumn Statement 2022, the Government confirmed funding of £1.6 billion for the <ins class="ministerial">UK's nine Catapults</ins> <del class="ministerial">Satellite Application Catapults</del> for the next five years, from April 2023 to March 2028, which is a 35 per cent increase compared to the previous five <ins class="ministerial">years of funding.</ins> <del class="ministerial">years.</del></p><p> </p><p><del class="ministerial">Catapults support innovation and commercialisation by providing access to world-leading facilities, skills, and equipment across the UK.</del></p><p> </p><p><del class="ministerial">Each of the UK's nine Catapults are funded by Innovate UK to drive innovation and commercialisation at the interface between universities and business.</del></p><p> </p><p>The Satellite Applications Catapult core grant funding figures for 2018-2023 are as follows:</p><p> </p><table><tbody><tr><td rowspan="2"><p>Core funding by Catapult (FY18/19 – FY22/23)</p></td><td><p>2018/19</p></td><td><p>2019/20</p></td><td><p>2020/21</p></td><td><p>2021/22</p></td><td><p>2022/23</p></td><td rowspan="2"><p>Total £m</p></td></tr><tr><td><p>£m</p></td><td><p>£m</p></td><td><p>£m</p></td><td><p>£m</p></td><td><p>£m</p></td></tr><tr><td><p>Satellite Applications</p></td><td><p>11.00</p></td><td><p>12.00</p></td><td><p>11.90</p></td><td><p>15.20</p></td><td><p>18.40</p></td><td><p>68.50</p></td></tr></tbody></table>

answer text <p><del class="ministerial">It has not proved possible to respond to the hon. Member in the time available before Prorogation.</del></p><p><ins class="ministerial">Now the terms of the AI Council members have come to an end, DSIT will be establishing a wider group of expert advisers to input on a range of priority issues across the department, including artificial intelligence, in order to expand the diversity of input on policy issues.</ins></p><p><ins class="ministerial">The AI Council’s terms of reference established members would sit on the council for a fixed-term period of up to three years, and all current members are invited to join this wider group of expertise.</ins></p><p><ins class="ministerial">The wider group of expertise will be separate but complementary to the recently established Foundation Model Taskforce which will drive forward critical work on AI safety and research.</ins></p><p><ins class="ministerial">Since it was established, the Council has advised Government on landmark policies including the National AI Strategy and the recent AI Regulation White Paper, which committed to reviewing its role and how Government structures and experts can support the UK’s evolving AI priorities. AI Council members have been invited to join the wider group of technology advisors as we establish the Foundation Model Taskforce.</ins></p><p> </p>
